United Kingdom 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
White smoke PUMA
Have the opportunity to buy a 2010 Defender Puma TDCI 90, 48000 miles which has been rolled but repairable.
Whilst looking it over I started it and let it tick over (no smoke) for about 10 minutes.
I then took it for a short drive, 1 mile or so. Shortly after starting, I noticed a slight miss on pick (lowish revs 1500rpm) which seemed to clear but reoccured on subsequent acceleration.
I had to turn round at some point only to discover on the return journey white smoke hanging in the air at which point I looked in my rearview mirror to see plumes of white smoke.
Returning to the yard I parked up and let it tick over during which it was smoking badly whiteish and possibly I could hear a slight tick/knock( it could have been that I was tuned in to problems at that point) in the engine but not sure as it was still cold according to the temp gauge, the tick over was smooth.
The oil level was fine and the oil was black not mayo like, also there was water in the header tank.
The vehicle had been standing unused/started for a number of weeks.
Does this engine cut out in the event of a roll and what would the damage be if it ran for a short time whilst upside down, I cannot say that this has happened but it is obviously possible.
Any info would be useful before I discard or buy.

Water in fuel would be start point. Take fuel filter cover off, and how old does fuel filter look? How much fuel was in tank?

I think that is breathing, so a lot of pressure caused by a broken piston.
