Mantec wheel carrier - split rubber washer
Had a new Mantec wheel carrier fitted at Billing and the rubber washer has now split and fallen off leaving the carrier to rattle and move about.

I will contact Mantec for a replacement but it looks like it will just happen again. Have i been unlucky or is this a common occurrence?

Is there a better solution than simply replacing the washer with another one the same?

Offending washer...

Think i used some o-rings to pack mine out so it didnt rattle, looks like that one has been over tightened when it was fitted causing the damage.

Pete.

I'll see if i can find some rubber washers. Bit stuck without a fix as i don't want to damage the piston by driving it around at the moment.

The same happened to ours. The carrier kept rattling on the corrugated roads in Australia, I'd tighten it up and it'd be fine for a few 100 k and then start rattling again. Eventually the washer disintegrated and I tightened it up without the washer - has worked fine and rattle free ever since !

No idea what the washer is supposed to be there for but it works fine without it in our experience Smile http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Jim,

As Davew said, but take the piston out and coat in a heavy industrial 'open gear' grease. Then just tighten everything up. Mines lasted over 30k without a rattle now.

All sorted. Put some lithium grease on the 'piston', placed a grommet in the bolt aperture, covered everything in ACF50 and bolted it up tight.

Not a rattle to be heard.
