WOw... good luck, I hope they sort it.
Here is a pic of the underside of mine. Some of it is mud/muck (just from paved roads), but some of it is rust. I don't know if it is surface rust or what. Even my rear step is rusting - where it rubs against the hinge. Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Well, it goes to show that a good rust proofing like 'Before & After' or waxoyl is worth doing when new - lessons learned!

I think eutek has right to expect that a 2009 car will not be rusting in 2010 to be honest! Disco 3 gone but the memory of the bills remain...
XS 110 Utility maybe one day..... (did they fix the quality yet?) |

That's a Defender 4 u!!
Mine is a 2007 - and as clean as a whistle underneath and above even in a 'salty area' where I live ('Before and After' treated when new). For all those of little faith in the product. El pepe flamenco JLS 'El Pepe Flamenco' |

I've not waxoyled the Defender yet... we've got a big move coming up in which I'll be transporting our parrots, and the fumes from the Waxoyl would kill them.
Hopefully the 110 will last I can get it Waxoyled in the next two months, and not disintegrate into a pile of fine red dust in the driveway in the meantime. When we moved back to the UK, we took the missus' car with us, and it was Waxoyled straight away. |

Yeovil LR did an excellent job of sorting the rust behind the dash when they replaced the foam seal below the windscreen and, so far, no more puddles in the passenger footwell Just the paint flaking off the gutters and front lower grill plus the splitting roof seams left to get sorted sometime Bob |

I drove mine brand new from the dealers to a place to be waxoyled, in my book one of the most important jobs that needs doing to preserve a defender. This doesn't excuse Land Rover from not doing it in the first place?

Arghhh... I should've done it as soon as I got the car, it was back in November before the snow and salt started.
In my naivete, I actually believed the salesman when he told me that the newer Puma-engined Defenders have an anti-rust proofing treatment, a lá Waxoyl. A few days later, after some additional research here on the forum, taught me otherwise. |
