That may be so but they are covered by the sale of goods act etc and for a tyre which has clearly never been used to be in that state I would suggest indicates that it is not fit for purpose nor of merchantable quality. Given that (based on your signature block) the tyre is only a year old I am sure that you have valid claim for a replacement, and furthermore the vehicle warranty is irrelevant in this situation.
If it was me I would do a bit of extra research (internet and/or CAB) and then politely but firmly explain the situation to your dealer. The dealer supplied the car and tyre to you, your contract is with him, he has the legal duty to sort it out. Good luck! |

Thanks for the advise. Yes - its a 2013 Defender.
I'm just googling around at the moment for some legal backup and i'll also contact Continental directly. |

There is waranty on tyres too.
I had a problem with my Vredestein wintrac tyres. A few email and a visit later and I have a 40% discount on a new set off tyres including mounting etc. Good service from Vredestein I have to say as I expected less. So if your dealer doesn't want to help you contact the tyre company and they probably will tell you that the dealer has to put a claim in to them. That way the dealer has to do it. I'm just looking for a customer service email address for Continental now. I'll drop them an email and see if I have any better luck with them.
Thanks for the tips |

Your Continental tyres have the same fault? Have they blown as well?

yes, i noticed it last year at one of my tyres. but after checking, they all had it a little bit. So thought it was normal.
still running without any issues. I think if you check your other tyres they all will have some sligth deformations on the sidewalls. |

No - all the other tyre sidewalls are fine and have covered 14,000 miles now. Its just the spare. I've been advised that it would be an MOT failure here in the UK.
I certainly won't be using this tyre. |

Thanks for that Steve. So when is a sidewall faulty and when is it 'normal'?
Seems a little strange. Also, have looked at photos of my Landy from a few months ago there was no bulge in the sidewall. Really odd. |

My understanding is that indents in the sidewall (obvioulsy excluding cuts) are not a problem but any swellings or blisters are bad news.

Thanks Steve. I've contacted Conti and i'll see what they say. It looks too prominent to me to be a 'safe' indentation. I'm sure they'll wriggle out of it but i'll try anyway.
I miss my BFGs! |
