My father had his silver Defender stolen overnight 10th to 11th August 2014
S90 SJK registration. Zambizi silver. Dented left wing, and dent in back left panel. With Mill services galvanised rear bumperettes as below: http://www.mill-services-uk.co.uk/images/work5.jpg The vehicle was parked in drive and they did not have the keys. It has an alarm and Tracker fitted (after last one was stolen 9 years ago.) Also it has a Red Booster clutch servo fitted. I will post a photos when find one. Peter Kent Land Rover Club. |

Found it. On false plates Locked up in 1st gear damage to dashdoard photos of damage later .

it would be nice to think they'll be caught and put out of circulation but more likely they'll be fined £50 and will get birthday cards and xmas cards for the next couple of years reminding them to behave

Like others, I'd be interested to know the brand of tracker involved and also, I assume the alarm you mention that was beaten was the factory fit, rather than anything aftermarket ? Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

Yes, definitely interested in the tracker used. I bought one, but it wasn't very reliable, didn't always get a GPS signal, so would appreciate a recommendation from one that actually worked in anger.

Unfortunately I have had the pleasure of using Tracker's services twice ,and both times the vehicle was successfully recovered. It also depends on what your insurer wants/approves. A mate was going to fit a skytag, but his insurance do not reconise it as Thatcham approved so he had to go with Tracker

Obviously its confidential which Tracker unit is installed.But was a stipulation of insurance company to be fitted. So is probably one used by them as opposed to boot fair folk. No was found a few doors down the road locked in gear. Looks like Land Rover reliability came into its own at the right time or they towed it in gear and broke something.
Vehicle has gone off to Forensics as don't think many are actually found esp those still with false plates on. We think they might have been disturbed by local farmers. As left the plates which is a bit odd. Then off to repairers Incidently it was pointing towards the country lanes route not the motorway route. The previous one he had stolen was whilst he got out to open the back door to put the dogs in. This was on his drive they pushed past him jumped in and sped off. That was later found locked up but insurance had paid up and he had bought this one. Thanks. Peter. |

Update from Insurance approved repairers.
Tracker was removed, its the official one and was 9 years old and not as efficient as the latest ones. The professional theives knew what they were doing and apparently had come prepared with their own circuitry to affix into the undernesth box where the ECU is under drivers seat. Not sure if they would had attempted theft if this had a decent lock fitted to the box (one for the X-Eng minded perhaps to develop.?) This Defender had the standard LR alarm and immobiliser fitted. This might give an insight into how others are being stolen (at least 6 in Kent last month, as reported on FB and or elsewhere). Suggestion has been to make sure all Defenders have an external non electronic visual deterrent such as a Steering wheel disklok. Whilst not foolproof it can take quite a while to get off (don't lose the 3 keys). |
