The gearbox may have been overfilled - check the level, only requires 2.4L, which is below the filler plug IIRC. --

Hi 2dae, I had the same thing so stuck some 10mm foam with silver foil heat reflector (previously intended for soundproofing under the bonnet) wherever i could put it - under the tunnel, up the bulkhead, under some of the floor panels. I had to do it in many pieces as it's difficult to get it where you want it especially as it sticks into place wherever it touches but it seems to work OK and I have benefited from less general noise plus almost no heat from the floor. 2.2 90 XS

Hi 2Dae,
How did you get on with your defender hot floor problem? Although I believe I reduced my problem it still exists in the summer on a hot day on long journeys (1hr+). It seems silly having the aircon on and yet having loads of heat coming up from the floor! I'm surprised there hasn't been more forum feedback on this issue, maybe now it's summer one or two will make comment. Meanwhile I may ask LR if they have any heatshields available, which I doubt, or perhaps try making my own. Cheers, John. 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Hi John,
Just thought I'd add my experience to your thread. I drove 620 miles today from Gloucestershire to Scotland and the cab got ridiculously hot. I find that the heat becomes noticeable after 140 miles ish. I've got some foil backed insulation on ofder so I'll let you know how that works out. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold) Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

The heat from the transmission tunnel has it's uses, when we took one of my previous Defenders to the Pyrenees some years ago we would wash our smalls in the on board washing machine, actually a 20 Ltr emulsion paint tub cleaned out and fitted with its tight fitting lid which we would half fill with warm water and washing powder and said smalls,we would would leave this in the back while driving in the morning and after about 100 miles it was done, we would then rinse washing out with clean water and drape washing over the transmission and hang on the seat adjust handles to dry in the afternoon. 2005 Td5 90 XS

With the DPF just in front of the foot well, which is just a thin bit of bare metal it's going to get hot! In the warmer temperatures we've had in the UK over the last few weeks, I too have been suffering from warm legs with warm air blowing out of the vents unless you switch on the aircon to cool the pipework down. In cooler weather, I had felt when the DPF had started an active regeneration cycle too.

Glad in a way then to see that this is experienced by others. Some kind of heat shield would seem to make sense as I don't foresee any trips when I need to convery my defender into a washing machine or dryer!
Something to think about, I guess just a thin sheet of ally in between bulhead and hot parts but with minimal physical contact with either is the idea? If anyone has already accomplished such a mod I would be in terested in pics. Cheers all. John. 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Nimbus or Cirrus sheeting is used around the silencer in the back of an Elise.
TechnoFibra is self-adhesive and could probably be stuck to the footwell: http://www.elise-shop.com/technofibra1000-...02327.html |

I spent a few hours under the truck making card board stencils. I then bought myself some tutbo shield from an auto shop. Super Cheap in Aus sell it. Then used the cardboard stencils to make the shapes that mirror the tunnel and floor. I then used Sikkaflex to hold the heat sheild in place, not squashing it to flat so to leave a 5mm gap for air and watef to pass between sheild and floor metal. See page one in my travels link below for pics of the process. It did far more than wrapping the exhaust, but it all bit by bit makes a differance. My Defender and travels

John, see they little dark grey statement in the footer of my post. My Defender and travels. Click on that. I think abut half way through the first page it has all the pics required to tell the story. Oddly enough I kept the templates for years thinking someone may be interested, but threw them out recently as it appeared no one was. Murphy strikes again. My Defender and travels

Found and looked through the link Newhue, great mods, posts and pics. Looks like you did very similar with the stick-on heatshield as I did, with equally moderate results.
If I get a bit of plate sorted out I'll let you know. Cheers. 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |
