Nah - there's no turbo shield on mine (better cooling for the new turbo and EGT sensor gets in the way).
The loud clattering seems to be on top of the usual diesel chatter - that's what makes me think it's a fueling issue. It's still vaguely possible its the clutch springs as they would vibrate at the same frequency as the usual chatter. My other worry was that I'd overheated the engine pushing it too hard (v.high exhaust gas temperatures) and knackered a piston/valve etc. but I reckon that would cause a loss of power, smoke on starting, louder noise on acceleration etc. which is thankfully not the case. I've managed to use up a 1/2 tank of diesel in the past few days, so early next week I can re-fill with fresh and add injector cleaner... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Hopefully the engine strategy would prevent it overheating and go into reduced power mode?

Unfortunately there is no EGT sensor built in. I think the CHT sensor is the best chance but with foot hard down uphill, the exhaust gases can go from 300 degrees to 800+ degrees in a matter of seconds and I don't think it could respond fast enough...
"With great power comes great responsibility" and I will be a lot more responsible with my demands on the engine in future anyway Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
