Ok update

Removed flywheel and then tested for play in the crank. Play was still there Big Cry

Just for completeness I removed the sump and lay underneath while I moved the crank via the flywheel bolts and only bald of the crank was moving Shocked

So ian you were correct in your diagnosis Thumbs Up

The crankshaft has broken into 2 pieces.

So I guess that's me now shopping for a new engine Rolling Eyes

Anybody have a good one that they want to sell ????

Might start a new thread to help my search

Thanks to all who have offered advice Thumbs Up it is much appreciated Thumbs Up

That's only the second Td5 that I know of that has snapped it's crank.

Wouldn't be the end of the world to fit a replacement crank... but really you'd want a full rebuild. I could do you a fully blue printed, balanced and ported race spec Td5. ...

Have never heard of a Td5 crank breaking before, would be really interesting to see pictures of where it's broken.

I guess it's a good advert for the Td5 engine that it hasn't got a reputation for breaking cranks.

At least we know what it is now.

It's normally the heads that let these engines down through cracking so assuming that your head is ok might be worth picking up a short engine and would probably work out the cheapest route for you
