Autohome/Maggiolina Grand Tour-Medium roof top tent
It is under a year old used once (decided a trailer tent is for us), painted from new in Galway Green, comes with all the options inc ladder in bag interior light, mossi nets, storage pockets, under mattress insulation 3 pillows etc. The material colour is carbon (dark grey) and fully insulated. This a wind up version so the roof remains horizontal and not tapered like the gas ram versions. At the moment it is fitted to a safety devices cage so a different fitting kit may be needed. The condition is as near to new as is possible. The retail of the tent with existing fitting kit and mattress insulation was around £2800 For sale @ £1695. with collection from north suffolk. http://www.boab.biz/pdfs/zifer/mag-grandtour.pdf Click image to enlarge 61 plate-110 USW......a bit pimped 54 plate NAS Spec 90-sold 4-Defenders-sold |

Once you have tested a Maggiolina, you forget all the others.
Wind or rain is no problem. |

I have the gas ram version (not had any problems with the mechanism) Friday night we were at chamonix and had a huge thunderstorm and I can confirm we kept perfectly dry
Only issue is mounting them on a roof rack with front to back slats, however I have a solution |

What went wrong with your fold out tent? Was it a main brand or 1 of the versions that are based on the main players? Would be interested to know as I've had our fold out tent for 4 or 5 yrs now and have had no issues at all. I wouldn't consider a maggi as it doesn't suit my needs or what I require it to do. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I have the same tent, just a few years older and can confirm, same as BPMan, they are very stable and dry in bad weather. Not had any issues at all. Superb piece of kit.
BPMan, as an aside, what's your solution to the roof rack with front to rear slats? Mine is on a Hannibal rack and is a permant fixture because it's no easy matter to fit. Moggy, sorry about the thread hijack... Tony |

like Steve i have mine mounted on front to rear rails (patriot) i have drilled holes down through the metal channel so long bolts can be inserted from the inside of the maggi and then through the channel and through the rack rails. been like it for 4 ish years, comes on and off within 10mins. 110 is everyday car so i tend to leave rack on Apr to Oct and put tent on for the weekend as and when i need it. This is my solution and makes fitting 5-10 min job, although you can't see there are bolts horizontally thru the Ali on opposite sides

Walfy,
The tent is a good quality South African built job, I'm not sure I want to name and shame as the importer is a touchy guy. It's just the tent outer that flapped in the wind ALOT. It is a great tent apart from the wind I've used it for a month or more around Europe and Morocco and recently in Iceland. I found myself getting paranoid about camping spots being sheltered. It really started to affect where we would camp and ended up "sleeping" in the front seats of the 110. It kinda defeats the point if I end up carrying around a ground tent too. I've heard good things about the maggi but the Colombus type wedge sea a better design for aiming into wind? |
