12k service
Fekete had mentioned about Deeside 4 x 4 for servicing, so they quoted me £184 x vat for my 59 plate 110. Tried JE who were at £380.00 less 10pc and then Guy Salmon went from £340 to £250 but inclusive of vat. As the car needed a new rear door seal under warranty, I went there. It also received a software update, and now has to go back in for leaking front pinion seals, and also rear diff oil seal leak - at 12,000 miles! After 60 yrs of 'development' you would have thought they had had enough time to sort out such straightforward issues... Shocked Shocked

Warts 'n' all!
Warts 'n' all! If you want perfection or 'car comfort' DON'T buy a Defender! Love mine niggles, farts, minor faults, in fact everything about it! Motoring for me would be a bore without my Defender or it's characteristics that need nursing, fettling or fixing! Nuff said! I wasn't talking about perfection..Defenders are wonderful - I've had a few. But to have seals leaking after 12k, and 60 yrs of manufacture is a bit daft.

Seals are seals and despite the obvious plastic/rubber development and advancement over the preceding 60 years they are still prone to failure, environmental fatigue at any time. Warranty'll sort it so no worries! Might have even been damaged/compromised on fitment?

Just had 12,000mile service at Lakeland Land Rover at Torver, price came to £254 which included VAT, car was valeted and I was given a Discovery 4 as a courtesy car. I certainly don't miss the south!

Tightwad!
Welcome to the site! Bit drastic moving up north just to get a cheap service! Your ex-dealership said when questioned "We don't really miss PJW4233 either! He was reknowned for his penny pinching when presented with the bill for services provided!"

Many a mickle makes a muckle, as they say up 'ere. I made sure to have 2 coffees and a packet of shortbread whilst waiting, and that was after spending £1.20 on a bacon butty en route to a walk round Tatton Park (it's £4.00 to drive in, so if you leave the car at GS Knutsford you can walk to the Park and save the entrance fee), and then £0.60p for a sausage roll en route back to GS. The car was also very nicely valeted.

I've usually got a pork pie or two stashed in my cubby box. I try and eat them a bit quicker now it's getting warmer.

I know! As with most cold-blooded animals Fekete's able to get to food alot quicker when the temperature goes up a degree or two! If you're not quick enough he beats you to it every time! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

How on earth have we managed to digress from 12k servicing to Fekete's prowess at eating pork pies???? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Whats your experience of GS Knutsford?

I have always used GS Stockport where I have bought both of my defenders from. They were alright but my neighbour uses James Edwards Chester whom from other threads I have read have a top bloke in service (Alex). I like to talk to someone mechanically minded when I go in so I can explain any niggles without getting a blank look off the service desk. I have even typed out in the past what I want them to look at for the service desk to go and write it on in their own language on a job card Banging Head

First time I've used GS for servicing though I bought the 110 from them initially. They seem fine, and a bit keener for business than JE Chester who could not match the the sale price and servicing costs at GS. However, having used JE for to buy and service a previous Defender and D3, I have found them entirely helpful and have sorted warranty issues without issue, and the D3 had quite a few.. Perhaps they have higher costs on the Chester Estate than GS have on the fringe of Knutsford?
GS Knutsford seem of similar ilk to me, and I'm back there in a couple of weeks for the seals.
