My shiny new(ish) IPF headlights have just arrived - thanks Ken . see here
I now need to figure out how to fit them. I had a poke around this evening with a torch, just looking at where the wiring might run but it all looked quite daunting. I've not taken anything off yet. Could anyone give me any pointers? Do I just unscrew the two screws on the front of the car on the panel where the lights sit and pull that whole assembly out? I'm then a bit stumped as to where I'll route the wiring and how far back (although maybe it is obvious once I have greater visibility of what's in there). Has anyone done this? Is it obvious what to do? I'm worried that a 2 hour job will end up taking me all day and then my wife will REALLY begin to question why I bought some lights to replace the perfectly good lights that I had already Help appreciated One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Thanks Paul.
It wasn't so much the taking off of the face covers that is vexing me but the wiring in of the new looms (and relays). I'm not in the country much at the moment (in fact I'm stuck in China whilst this ash cloud blows over) but I'm going to take a good look at it on the weekend (if I make it home). I am not familiar with the kit, but having seen the ad of Ken's just now in for sale, I notice it has uprated 110/80w bulbs.
The standard bulbs are 55/60w and so this is why you get the new loom, as the bulbs pull more power than standard (and hence make more light), but the standard wiring is not suited for the increased power. I suspect as Ken says there is a set of loom that connects directly to the battery and runs to behind the headlight, there you plug into the light, and the existing Defender loom. The existing loom then switches a relay not the headlight, and the relay connects your new high power lights to the battery via the new heavy duty cabling. Actually looking at The wiring loom it seems it works like this, as it has a load of relays and 3 pin headlight connectors: Sure its easy once you know how Would be interested in how much better you think it makes the headlights once you have it in. Good luck with the dust cloud If you get really stuck, at least try to get some F1 tickets for the weekend |
