2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 HT Tonga Green
Hunters, Guildford
Put my 2008 tdci in for its first service, marked the filters, fillers, grease points and recorded the mileage beforehand Wink
I found that all they had done was changed the oil, checked the axle diff oil levels.. made a half hearted attempt at greasing the propshaft, and no road test...... not good for £390.
I took the truck back and got a 50% refund.
I suppose at least they took the time to sign the service history record.
So they get the thumbs down from me.

Re: Hunters, Guildford
Did the dealership issue you with a completed copy of the Maintenance Check Sheet, showing ticks in each box for that particular type of service?

I had my '08 90 XS SW first 12-month service on 1 May at an Authorised Repairer (Taylors of Dunmow, Essex). They are LR authorised but not a dealership. I did not get the Check Sheet with the Invoice but asked for it later when they called to check I was happy with their service and they sent it on, all ticked and complete. They did not know if it was standard dealer practice to issue these Sheets. I'm expecting a QA call from LR sometime soon and will cover this with them.

Do you get these detailed sheets with your dealership/authorised repairer services? If not, maybe we should all insist - after all, it assures us of the service we contracted to receive and the dealer/repairer has proof of the work done, or said to be done. It also enhances your service record.

I've had 25 years experience of another make and I always received their equivalent detailed service Sheet as a matter of course. Trevor Wright

Yes I got the maintenance check sheet with all the relavent boxes ticked.
It was just the actual work that they didn’t carry out!
Amongst other procedures left out, the road wheels had not been removed and no road test had taken place, the handbrake was still in need of adjustment and the brake warning light was still showing (due to a short circuit in the wiring)
When I went back to complain; the service manager started blaming the mechanic who did the service.
But surely it is down the service manager to make sure that his workers are doing the job properly?
Hunters offered to do the service again but this time properly; but I decided that I would go to an independent specialist as any trust in Hunters had dissappeared.
How many vehicles get incorrectly serviced by them leaving the owners unaware about what has or has not been done or perhaps with potentially dangerous faults undiscovered?

If they'd ticked the items off as done but not carried it out thats fraud and i would have expected a full refund and it done properly. Then maybee a chat with the local Trading Standards!

In hindsight I should have made more of a fuss.
But at the time I was just glad to get at least some money back and the service history stamped.
Then get home and do the service correctly.
I am in no doubt that the vehicle is in good health now!

My 130 had its 1st service done two days ago and when i got home i realised they had only changed the oil and filter. I'm going back on Monday with a check sheet and tell them what a bunch of idiots they are. Like philip i marked certain items just in case and i'll probably finnish the job myself now it has a dealer stamp in the log book. To cap it all off they washed it and must have used a stiff brush which has scratched the laquer on one side. 130 crew cab

Having purchased a few cars from Hunters i feel i wont be anymore. I have had a MIL light come on at the weekend and got it checked by my friendly local independent (nothing too serious. EGR) I called Hunters Monday morning and left a message for service to call me, again at lunchtime and again at 4pm. Till now, wednesday morning still i have not have a call. I have had the fault cleared and now booked in elsewhere and they have ordered in the EGR Valve based the codes given and confirmation from my local independent that the MIL was on when i came in. You would have thought calling in with a MIL light would get a prompt reaction!!!!
