My alarm kept going off in wet weather.
Cured the problem permanently but squirting WD40 into the door switches. PS Always make sure you havent got a moth inside when you lock up. |

So you think squirt WD40 into those little push sensors on the pillar?

It's worth a try plus have a look to see if they are functioning correctly, a bit of a pain when you have a delay timer on the interior light, open one door at a time to see if the inerior light comes on straight away. To speed the job up, open the drivers window so you can reach the ignition, by turning on to position 2 the interior lights go out a bit quicker. Make sure the tabs that the switches push against are in the right position, don't forget the one under the bonnet by the bulkhead.

Don't think problem will be door switches, as that would make alarm sound in the normal on/off/on way. The constant sounding makes me think more serious.

Were your indicators flashing whilst alarm was sounding?
Have you repaired your rear light? Andy |

The indicators weren't flashing
And the light started working properly again all by itself Edit Just reconnected the battery whilst leaving the horn and central locking fuse removed (far left of bottom left fuse bank and far left of bottom right fuse bank in the dash respectively). Same thing happened. High pitched alarm went on off on off Started up and it stopped doing it sounding Turned it off and the alarm sounded for a few seconds then stopped Then started, then stopped etc etc All the door switches work fine as the lights come on and off I did put LED's in the interior lights about 3 weeks ago And last week had a new x-member fitted so battery was disconnected for an extended period but everything worked perfectly afterwards. The only difference is my tow electrics no longer have the connector on the end. They are taped up Will Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

So I took the car into an auto electrics place today
They plugged it in and found when the clicked on alarm no options came up on the sub menus of the diagnostics Couldn't find a way to rewire it to get rid of the alarm or solve the problem at all Has anyone had this with their own diagnostics on a Land Rover when looking at an alarm (e.g. with a nanocom) They think maybe it's locked to land rover dealership diagnostics. But saying that they have done an 07 reg Defender with no problems (although this is a later model obviously) Any thoughts? Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

1. possibily you have an earth fault. the BBUS (high pitch alarm) is going off. It happens when it think that the main battery has been disconnected.
2. the 10AS unit cannot be accessed, perhaps it might be a fault in the 10AS unit. 3. have you triggered the alarm before? does it sound a contineous horn or beeps. If it was always the beeps and suddenly it decided to change to a contineous horn, then i'd place my bet on the 10AS unit. 4. if you manage to get it to talk, then maybe you just need to re program the 10AS unit. i've seen one 'suddenly' forget its settings and after a reprogram and 'relearn' of the ECU, all's well again. Had something similair. I changed the BBUS as the one i had fitted was s/h from ebay. Not had the problem since. I also changed one of the horns as it was not sounding very healthy.

In the beginning only LR diagnostic tools could read the 10AS module. Now tools like the Nanocom, MSV2 and Hawkeye give cheaper access to the module for the home enthusiast. More expensive dealer level tools other than IDS/SDD require licences/ or the 10AS module software to allow access

Sorry to bring this back to the fore, but the problem has resurfaced.
Also apologies for not replying to your answers, for some reason I failed to see them!! Took the thing into Land Rover a few weeks ago and after an hours diagnostic they were sure it was the volumetric sensor. I haven't been able to replace it but I reconnected the horns I had disconnected, took out the volumetric sensor (BBUS) and had zero problems until last night when the high pitch alarm started going off again intermittently every half hour for varying lengths of time (5-40 seconds) Popped it in the garage this morning and the main horn has stopped working, as a quick fix I've disconnected the alarm sounder again and the car runs fine and obviously there is no more noise SO I've been thinking about getting a nanocom or the like to deal with problems like this and I've done quite a bit of research on the forum about what people think of nanocom and MSV2. However does anyone have any "recent" experiences of both pieces of kit. Also any thoughts on the problem would be good ha Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |

My take is you have an earth fault to the 10AS unit or to the BBUS unit.
the BBUS (battery back up sounder), which is the high pitch alarm sounds when it thinks someone has cut the power to the 10AS alarm system.
