I think I would put more than a gallon of diesel in the tank.

Do you mean put a gallon of petrol in your tdi?
Petrol and diesel engines operate quite differently - compression ignition - diesels as in they compress the fuel air mix until it explodes rather than a petrol engine that ignites the fuel air mix with a spark plug. With trhis in mind I would be careful mixing the two. 110 Hardtop |

It used to be common to add petrol to diesel to prevent the diesel waxing in the winter but that was before winter grade diesel and modern Diesel engines, not sure I would want to add anything that would reduce the lubricity of the diesel as this is what stops your injection pump turning to swarfe.

Yes and modern injectors work at such small tolerances and at such high pressures you have to be careful what you put in. 110 Hardtop

The look on a customer's face when I handed him a bill for just shy of £3,000 as a result of putting some petrol in a Diesel "because he though it'd be alright" suggests that it's not such a good idea. Don't do it. 2 stroke is a different story though... An engine to TDi for!

If you're asking what I think you're asking... a small amount of petrol, in a tank otherwise full of diesel NO...DON'T DO IT 
A good 'additive' to a tank of Diesel (the benefits are however debatable) but 
A spare can of Diesel for long journeys
A long range tank
A properly maintained Defender
But avoid the Green Nozzle at filling stations  SKIP

As above really, don't do it.
Petrol and diesel systems are very different, petrol can cause the seals and rubbers to swell or leak in diesel systems, as well as cause increased wear on your injectors and pump. This combined with no benefits at all performance wise (can cause pre-ignition too which is very bad for your pistons, cranks, crankshaft, bearings) I cannot see any benefit to it. Yes if you bought diesel in the Sahara and then drove to Iceland, maybe put a little in to a full tank, otherwise just use diesel. The Tdi lumps are very forgiving with quality of diesel, they can chew up some pretty cruddy diesel unlike modern common rail lumps. But they don't like petrol. In my lump I run standard BP Diesel and put in an additive. In my opinion it runs better with the additive though I have no actual figures or numbers to back this up. |

Ok cheers guys i will leave putting petrol in then but mite look into trying some millers instead, its only i am going to billing in a few weeks time and don't no the con'd of the injectors so thought while i am driving a fair distance i will put something in the fuel system to help clean the injectors wether they need it or not

To be honest just a full tank of good diesel and some redex should clear through any crud on a nice long run and everything will get nice and warm so hopefully should give it a bit of a boost

Try one shot of millers DIESEL INJECTOR CLEANER they recomend a journey of about two hundred miles on a full tank so Billing should about do that http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/td...sector=Car Try Land Ranger Service in Stockport to see if they stock it.... |
