Time to move on from the 90
So time has come to move on from the 90.

3 years old and just sailed through its mot. Been great fun and as an introduction to Defender ownership pretty painless, she doesn't leak, only stopped once and has been used daily.
Everywhere we've been in it people have stopped to chat about it, other drivers always let us out and are reasonably courteous as we bumble away from the lights and the whole ownership experience has been brilliant.
We're used to the heater now going from icy to volcanic, the chukka chukka noise on turning off, the Censored turning circle, the bouncy ride , rubbish wipers, hopeless stereo (despite upgrades) , vaguely comfortable seats and the odd rifle shot as a stone hits the underbelly.
But what great fun Smile

This site has been a huge help and source of info and entertainment and only work/life has keep me off it the last year.

However there always comes a point to move on, and we'll be sad to see it go as they slowly get under your skin and ,as has been said before, end up part of the family.

So when it came to replace it with a 'bigger' car, we thought 'feck it' and bought a new 110.

Other than the obvious improvement in ride, the improved refinement from the engine is quite surprising. It's still a bit of a ditch pump but it's no longer a shouty gruff ditch pump. Lacks a bit of low down punch of the 2.4, but smooth quieter and revvier, quite impressed.

So only 200 miles in but loving it already Smile

This is probably why the 90 will cease production altogether, and the 110 & 130 will continue to be built in India - all the people who buy Defender 90s, and then go on to buy a 110 could never go back to the shorter wheelbase!

Just my opinion anyway! Rolling Eyes 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Hmm

I love my 110 as my daily drive but I won't ever be getting rid of the 88" for greenlining fun. 1970 Series 2A 88"

It's a nice colour combo, hopefully i won't have to wash it as much as a black 90 Smile

Luke/Interlet, have to say that much tho I loved the 90, the 110 is a better road vehicle though can appreciate the benefit of a swb off-road.

You can vastly improve the turning circle by adjusting the stop bolts on the front hubs... Hope you know that takes two mins and is the best mod you can do to a defender....

Hey Stu,

Congrats on the new 110 - I saw your lovely 90 in St Albans a few weeks back when I was over there. Headlights and Driving lights caught my eye, lovely truck. Hope to see the new one at some point - I'd be very interested to hear your views on the different ride between the 90 and 110. Is it much less choppy?

Nath

Whew! Went the other direction myself and wouldn't swop my 90 for a 110 - ever! Just back from a nearly 2000km trip through the Kruger Park towing an off-road trailer and 9t never missed a beat. Admittedly it is just me and my wife so space isn't an issue. Brilliant truck. '13 Defender 90
