You need to look closely at the wiring inside the light unit.
usually they're isolated from the "body" of the vehicle by the fact that they're all plastic, and the mounting bolts aren't connected to anything inside the light, thus it wouldn't matter which way around you connected the live and earth as it's only a filament bulb (is it? not an LED?) If you've fitted an LED bulb, then being a diode these will only work one way round. So double check your wiring, could be too much insulation still on the end of a piece of the flex? I've not seen the connectors on the new light, but usually on those it's a small bullet connector, where you push the (exposed) wires through the end of the bullet and fold it back over the outside of said bullet, then push the whole thing into a round almost spring loaded terminal, where the springyness of the terminal holds the bullet in place. But being britpart, anything is possible.... they probably have a dead short across both terminals |
