Toe In
Hi All,

At the weekend I fitted a new steering box as well as Disco conversion and SumoBar Extreme bars.

I have a problem with the rear bar where it limit of adjustment will only bring the wheels to a Toe In figure of 180 Minutes. (3 Degrees off centre for each wheel ... 15mm each side).

I have been in touch with Gwyn and he's always rectified the problems ASAP so I'm not to worried about that and I'm sure he'll reply when he first gets chance! But I do have to run the truck daily and the original bar is now scrap.

Apart from a few days of odd wearing for the tyres, am I risking damage elsewhere with driving with this amount of toe in? I realise the stock is somewhere between 0-1mm Toe Out.

Kind Regards to all.

On a side note, my recon steering box which has been in my shed for a few months now it complete pap! Horrible notch when turning right in 2 spots. Not nice! Original box was better! Ordered one from Green Oval Landrover this time. Let's hope they know how to rebuild a box properly!

Can't you just cut 1/2 inch off the bar? Or am I missing something?

Well I could, but the easiest way would be to cut some of the TRE thread off. But with it all being new, I was sort of trying to refrain from doing so.

It was more the question of would it be doing damage elsewhere. Gwyn has as expected offered every ounce of help and may be sending me another bar ASAP which is his usual excellent service (I'm not secretly working for him :p ... I'm just a massive fan of his kit! Sorry if I sound a little to enthusiastic!).

I tried to cut it in a bit further which I did, and managed another turn, but after a few more attempts it became absolutely rock solid to turn any further so I stopped. He rang this evening to say he's found a few others with some internal burrs. If I had this off and on a vice I could possibly get a bit more. I'm just really weary of something going snap! I'd then be in the proverbial slightly! Unfortunately I dont have a tap big enough, though could sacrifice a TRE to make a tap (another one of his handy tips!)!

Also ... cutting the bar wouldn't help as it's the thread bottoming out, not the TRE body :p!

Oh ok. Just thought the bar was to long. Only other thought is old TRE with a slot cut along thread to clear internal thread, or find local engineering place that may have correct size tap.

But am sure Gywn is on a mission to sort, let us know how you get on.

Yes, Gwyn suggested that. But without having spares and the truck being my daily runner to work etc, I'm always nervous in case something doesn't work!

Will give him a bell in the morning and see what he suggests. I've got the kit to try it, just not the spares should the worst happen, that's all that worries me!
