The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) today released a new report that examines thefts of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) reported stolen between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2013.
The data was further refined with thefts of 2011, 2012 and 2013 model year vehicles only. Using those parameters, a total of 21,711 SUVs/CUVs were reported stolen during the period. Model Thefts Unrecovered Percentage Unrecovered JeepWrangler 633 176 28% JeepGrand Cherokee 912 153 17% CadillacEscalade 486 144 30% Land RoverRange Rover/Range Rover Sport 390 140 36% Mercedes-BenzGL class 323 119 37% ChevroletTahoe 647 112 17% NissanRogue 695 87 13% FordExplorer 958 80 8% ToyotaRav4 665 76 11% FordEscape 1,421 76 5% HondaPilot 465 76 16% So Range Rover is one of the highest unrecoverable rates but I'm pleasantly surprised that nearly 2 out of every 3 do get recovered. I'd have thought the figure was alot worse than this - maybe it is in the UK?
