I've just been looking at these on Brendan's site and just noticed "post 2002". What's the issue with older models? Just more holes needed or am I missing something obvious He who dies with the most toys...wins!

In 2002 Land Rover changed the design of the rear door. The standard door mounted rear wheel carrier has 3 bolts either side and these bolts go through the two vertical reinforcing ribs in the door frame and then has big penny washers under the nuts. The rear door mounting plate on the Nakatanenga wheel carrier picks up on 4 of the 6 original bolts.
Now standard swingaway wheel carriers are either pre or post 2002 and the difference is the pre 2002 are supplied with a reinforcing plate for the door. It would probably not be commercially viable to offer a pre 2002 version of this wheel carrier as there will not be a great demand to fit a £600 wheel carrier on a 12+ year old vehicle. Yes it would be possible at home for someone to reinforce there own rear door. Brendan |

I have just fitted my older Nakatanenga wheel carrier (post-2002) to a pre-2002 door. I just bought a galvanized steel plate, 3mm thick, cut to fit the recess in the door, drilled a few holes and bolted through.
Took more time scratching my head and wondering what was necessary than actually doing. Found out in the process that the door frame is quite rusted at the bottm section, but hopefully using the wheel carrier will give it a few more years before replacement becomes necessary. |

Cheers Guys,
Easy fix, it's going on an 83 soft top but I'm fitting a cut down door so I'll make sure it's a post 2002 door He who dies with the most toys...wins! |

Am not sure how cutting down a full door effects strength etc or how much work is involved.
An alternative can be seen here Cost about £220 Brendan |

That looks like a professionally cut down and adjusted door. I've done it in the past, really simple, cut, tidy and fit a stainless capping piece for strength and neatness.
Having said that-if post 02 doors are overpriced I may as well get one of those. Thanks He who dies with the most toys...wins! |

Yes it's a lovely piece of engineering but I'm not understanding why all the excitement to buy it . What's wrong with the wheel carrier on the back door ? If it's rust then replace the 6 bolts with stainless and regularly polish the carrier . There has to be a lot more desirable accessories to buy for £500

Yes will fit with NAS step. You may or maynot have to trim a little bit of the rubber tread mat off. People have fitted them to vehicles with NAS steps with no problems Had a quick look at costs to France and you would be looking at around the £25 mark. Would need your post code to make sure that you do not live in a remote area and so a courier surcharge is payable. Can remember weight but not positive over all the dimensions. Hope that helps, any questions fire away. Price within UK is £525 including delivery to mainland UK. Brendan |
