At 19, 20 and 21, you should be able to "realise the implication" of blinding a pilot.
If brought up properly, you should realise the consequences of actions like this by age 10 at the latest! But then I suppose that's a sign of today's society. An engine to TDi for!

They clearly had an intent to harm - you don't just happen to have lasers on you on the offchance. How would they measure the "success" of their "experiment" without bringing down the aircraft and killing everyone inside. They were fully aware of what they were doing and the possible consequences. String 'em up (metaphorically speaking) and don't give them the opportunity to breed. I'm so sick of the pathetic legal system in the UK and here. Rant over.
*Edit* For those who don't know, I'm British and will always be. Most of my family live in the UK, including my children.Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

If a system of justice is to be robust and fit-for-purpose sentences must be harsh enough to act as a deterrent.
