Do you mean a lead blanket that you attach to the bulkhead or one that you drape and tie over the engine?
The bulkhead lead blanket as sold by noise killer works very well, however you have to remove all bulkhead fixtures to fit it. The engine lead blanket does not work so well and some users say it can cause overheating issues. Noise Killer Lead Sandwich can be applied to the bulkhead to block and reduce the engine noise transmitted through the bulkhead. http://www.nkgroup.co.uk/product/noisekill...-material/ A sheet of high quality sound deadening lead sandwiched inside two layers of class “O” fire rated acoustic foam with a self-adhesive backing. The outside face is finished with a foil facing. The Lead layer acts as a barrier to sounds and the two layers of foam absorb the airborne sounds that have been blocked. The foil facing gives a wipe clean surface and helps to stop the acoustic foam from clogging with fumes and oils. Can be used on the bulkhead in Land Rover models or inside in-cab engine covers. I've had a Noisekiller engine blanket for well over four years. No overheating or any other nonsense. Its a simple, easy to fit mod that makes a big difference. In fact last year I took it off for two weeks to see if it was noticeable and it absolutely was, especially at higher speed cruising. Back on it went !
To give you an idea of its effectiveness it makes the 2.4 about as quiet as a 2.2 - my father in law has the latter so easy to compare. IMHO the best bangs per buck with the least effort required - well worth a hundred or so quid unless you want to spend hours faffing about cutting and sticking bits of course |
