Aircon question
I have never had a vehicle with aircon before, so the system on my 110 is quite new to me. We have had a few hot days recently so had the system on, and I noticed it is not as cold as I remember. We don't use it all the time but over the winter I did have it on to help defrost the vehicle. Is there any reason why it is not getting as cold? I remember having to turn the outlet away from my hand as it was freezing my fingers last summer.

Any ideas please? 2011 110 USW

Sometimes if they are not used the rubber O rings that seal the system leak
I had a big argument with nissan over this on a 1yr old Nav that had the same problem
They charged me to Re gas the system as I'd not used it
Having checked there manual it did recommend turning it on every week Embarassed
My be the same Thumbs Up It's good to be back from the dark side

most aircon systems will lose 10% of there gas every year

most o ring leaks are where the alley pipe corrodes and the corrosion creeps inside under o ring

be honest never seen a o ring dryed out causing a leak but say it could be possible , maybe on a very old system or on system that's had a gas swap from old gas ( now banned ) to r134a as you need different o rings and hoses

but yes aircon should be run every now and then to mix oil and gas up around the system

I guess the gas will not have been looked at when serviced - is this a dealer job or can anyone do it?

The vehicle is just coming up to 3 years old. 2011 110 USW

never heard of it during service , doesn't have to be dealer , they will charge a lot more , any garage with a machine can do it , to be done properly it needs vacuuming for 20 -25 mins to dry out system , then refill

even if they have a lot of gas left in them when there degassed , vacuumed, then Regased they always seem to work better
and you should get bit of fresh oil added so that's a good reason to get it done

is the electric fan running ok on the aircon condenser in the front

Okay, I will see what i can do. Having a new windscreen in tomorrow and MOT the day after and front brake pad replacement. Rear pads and aircon can wait a bit then. 2011 110 USW

Looks forward attachments radiator cooling. It is made by aluminum "pop" rivets which are often degraded and then, vibration eventually break the radiator, resulting in a loss of gas.
Mine (190.000km) was re-soldered 2 times. Now, I think that I will change it

Most halfords/quick fit/MOT places will do an aircon re gas.

Or halfords/garages also sell DIY cans which work ok, if it's not empty (just a top up therefore) but they're not usually enough if dead empty. More than doable yourself even for the most inept mechanic Thumbs Up Cheers, David

Kwick fit do it for Ł50. Guaranteed to work, and for a couple of years.

a lot of the small top up cans contain sealer , it might work but never as good and even if you have it done properly after it will never work as good again

also you don't know how much gas is in the system to start with , and more gas than its designed for will make it blow warm and overheat the system
