Very true, Co1. And I’m an expert at being unable to say ‘no’!
Mo, no particular desires other than listed, I just don’t want to miss the opportunity with something I might not have thought about. So I don’t immediately hear “Why on Earth didn’t you change the Fettle Gromit at the same time? It’ll all have to come out again...” the second the job is finished! |

Thanks for the suggestion, Bankz. Do you think there is enough of a shock-load on a 60/40 ATB to warrant pegging? My thoughts were that it’s two more holes in the case than would be otherwise needed.

I would also be fitting the catch brackets to stop the ends breaking off the front axle (or getting the axle case reinforced). Even if your axle is not in the VIN range that was recalled, there seem to be as many failures of axles outside the range as inside.

Great stuff. Thank you Bankz & Blackwolf.
I’ll add pegging and Terrafirma axle reinforcement to the job list. NG |

As Blackwolf suggests, get the catch brackets fitted for the front axle so you don't die if the weld fails. Alternatively get it beefed up by a competent engineer or swap it for a recon TD5 front axle .
ATB's are a great modification , when you're upgrading the half shafts you may want to add the HD drive flanges to your shopping basket as the standard flanges will become your weakest link. If you still want to spend more then perhaps heavy duty propshafts and an ATB in the transfer box ! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

Bluericky,
Flanges on the list, thank you. It’s also getting some Gwynn Lewis half-shafts, to refresh the drive train. Considered the triple ATB option, but I’ve recently had a new Clutchfix clutch and Ashcroft output shaft and so I’m loath to much about in an around there at the moment. Anyone have a link for the ‘catch brackets’? I’m coming up short on my Search engine skills. I saw what happened to Grizzly&Bear. Looked very nasty, but I had no idea out-of-recall axles were at-risk too. NG |

Grizzly bear wasn’t the axle I don’t think , rather the swivels balls themselves , I believe they came in a blue box ! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/
