You can join Fekete's 'Sticky Out Club' too, he runs on the same as you 10 inch modulars on 12:50s and I run on 10 inch Mach 5s with 11:50s! I think it makes the vehicle look a bit like a Tonka Toy! Will be interesting at MOT time, either refit the Boosts or get extended arches, will have to get further advice nearer the time or see how Fekete gets on first! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Slightly smaller than Fekete's due to differing offsets.....Looks the same if you rummage in respective photo galleries

Does the rim size offer any benefit/disadvantage?
I would imagine more tyre sidewall = more flex, so possibly lower ground pressure when deflated? I know on road it's probably better to have a bigger rim. Not a huge amount of relevance I know as everyone runs 16" and sometimes 15" rims, but I am just curious. Think 255 BFGs will be my next, but only if I can get a cheap set somewhere. Anything you can do, I can do slower and less efficiently. |

Normally:
A smaller rim and deeper tyre will add to the comfort of the ride, reducing transmitted vibrations through the transmission and chassis. Not a problem when you have a sophisticated independent setup or air springs but quite noticeable with our agricultural setup. Also allows you to deflate more (subject to certain other variables - specific tyre; ratio of width to depth; width of rim; beadlockers...) and, more importantly, keeps the rim away from the rock. A larger rim and lower profile tyres will handle better round corners (won't roll so much) - hence their use on performance cars. All of that said, 16" is seen as a pretty small rim and will afford all the above advantages. You'll really notice the compromise if you go to 18".
I can't find anyone that sells that width. Let me know how you get on. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Was sorely tempted by 255 BFG MTs when I changed my tyres. Devon sell them. (Or are least they're showing on their website as orderable). Peter

Was this the original LR submission for the Sticky Out Club? Tag on photo states: "Built for Shell Oil Company in 1963 for use in Alaska during exploration of possible pipeline routes". |

Always love reading these threads on tyre fitment.
I always choose the right tyre for the job, I race in 235/85x16, for road 265/75x16 and my dog and logging 90 is on 315/75x16...............bit easy for me though. Andy. www.ajstyres.co.uk 01737 241370 Junction 8 M25 Surrey. |

My vote now goes for 255/85 16
Looks right in my eyes - more under diff clearance and a bit more lock than the wider tyres. |
