why not make them the same?
Why would they only put what appears to be a cover on just one of the two transfer box mounts?

Aha. Maybe....gbox has been replaced but didn't think the tbox had been out.....does it need to come out to get the gbox out?

yes you can remove whole box in one or remove transfer first then main box , but what ever way those mountings have to come off

Bearing in mind the extent of my off adventures I don't think a missing cover is going to make me loose any sleep but all the same I presume their should be a shield on both?
Thumbs Up
Thanks

Heat shield due to the proximity of the exhaust to one mount only.

blackwolf - I presume that is simply a guess?

if I remember neither are very close to the exhaust and the one with the shield is furthest away. so assuming it isn't a sheat shield what are they / is it for - to help prevent mechanical damage to the rubber from impact?

Not so much a guess as the only explanantion I could come up with when I was wondering the same thing when I changed my clutch recently. Evidently on the TDCi there is some reason why the n/s mounting needs protection, they are all like that (n/s only). The ex-2013-2.2-write-off gearbox/transferbox assembly I bought, which came with the mountings still on, also had a shield on the n/s mount only, so there must be a reason.

Exhaust and heat was the only plausing explanation I could come up with.

If you want yours to match you're welcome to the surplus shield I have!

thanks Blackwolf but I'm happy as is all the same.

I have to agree it does look like a heat shield but seems odd as I'd have thought the other mount would have been more susceptible to heat (from memory).?

the n/s with the shield is lower and hence I wondered as flimsy as it is whether it might be there to protect against impact?

oh well perhaps another little quirk?

Td5 is the same, it's an exhaust heat shield.

There's one on the LH engine mounting rubber too.
