Went today.......well its local and if you don't support a local show then don't moan when they aren't about in the future.
Didn't expect too much as its a new show... It wasnt huge, but also had lawn mower racing which was interesting to watch especially as they are part of my job. Every show has to start somewhere...... |

Went...not a good show at all..won't be doing it again...people stopped coming in at 1pm...needs more advertising and more promoting

Went late Friday & camped Friday & Saturday.
Wasn't expecting a great turn out from traders as there are many shows to chose from for them. How ever had a look at the Tuff Trek wrap around awning. Not a bad bit of kit for the money. As it wasn't so busy you could have a decent chat with the traders about some of the gear they were selling. Bought a few bits that I was looking out for. Personally me & my lad quite enjoyed it as it was different to all the land rover shows that all seem to be more or less the same. Had a great night Saturday with beer in the bar at REAL peoples price. Decent entertainment & a bit of banter & stories around the fire. Met some nice people & made new friends. Will be back in September for the Bigger Overland show which after talking to several regulars seem to be a great show.

As has been said, if you don't support the shows both as exhibitors and visitors then they will disappear ! FCX were at the 4x4 Indoor show earlier this year (for the 2nd year running) and after the overheads have been deducted made a loss, however, we'll be going again next year as shows aren't all about making a fast buck, they are predominantly a social event and a 'show room' where people come come and see your products and talk to the faces behind the names. FCX will be at Billing and Peterborough this year. Billing has had its problems in the past but at the end of the day 'Billing' is a tradition, many a time I've met people (strangers) out on a green lane or at a punch hunt and the closing comment is "see you at Billing !" |

I know that my comments have come across as very negative for this show but I just put my comments as I see them. Martin01 went and enjoyed his experience and good on him. Land Rover folk are a different breed to the rest of the population, the cross we bear with owning and using the vehicles that take over our lives and as such gravitate together. We can talk to complete strangers because of our common affliction and chew the fat for hours.
Yes, I did expect a little more from the show, the web page promotion, all very glossy and slick didn't really deliver its suggestions, the fact that it was an amalgamation of three different events gave promise but there only really seemed to be a single prescence there. Yes I am interested in overland travel, looking at how people have kitted out their Land Rovers as I use mine for weekend breaks and am allways open to ideas to make my life easier when camping with two teenage boys but I can't take up too much space with permanent fixings because my vehicle has many roles in my ownership. I have had an insight on how difficult and frustrating it is starting a new Land Rover event, trying to find that crowd puller is like pulling hen's teeth, the lawn mower racing was a nice touch along with the blinfold driving by anyone who wanted to give it a go, the same with the reversing challenge. I know some people like to see the "Twist-off ramp" but I find it only holds my attention for a minute or two. Most shows will have the clubs enter the arena and then give an indepth diatrabe on their personal passion, that is just slightly more appealing to most than the dog and duck that was a little overdone for a few years. I know I sound so negative but I will continue to go and pay my money at the gate and try to attend with an open mind at these events through the year but it doesn't mean that I am satisfied by what I've been presented with. I know that venues are expensive to hire, insurance cover is a big, big expense, services and facilities are a huge cost so before promoters can get a return on their efforts there are some huge expenses to cover so someone has to pay. Matt from FCX, from the general punters point of view, has the right view on what these shows should be about, it's not that long ago that when you went to shows there would be the bigger aftermarket suppliers such as Rimmer Brothers or M&M4x4, they'd have service kits and odd bits and bobs for sale, stuff they were trying to clear out and plenty of catalogues and glossy brochures. The next time something broke through the year or you wanted to spoil your pride and joy the first place you would look would be at those places you saw at the show, good old subliminal advertising. There never will be a golden answer to pleasing all of the people all of the time and so it should be, I know as I've got older I've turned into more of a grumpy old git but it does seem that shows aren't really coming up with the goods for many and even though they are telling us that they are listening to what people want it just isn't being provided. It's becoming an expensive way to end up just socialising. |

Thought I'd add my 2p worth.
I thought that this show has great potential as it's not a big corporate show. The weather Sat was pretty much awful but Sunday was great. It's a huge site and really quite nice. It was a very social show and I think that clubs were really well suited. Perfect? Definitely not? Enthusiastic? Yes!  with rain Sat -oh yes!
As a very small trader I have to say that we really enjoyed it as we were able to chat, socialise and meet customers but it's not run on a giant corporate level (obviously). Commercially successful - maybe not? Would we support this show again? Yes - I think we would. |

Blimey, I've only just come across this thread, only a year too late! If you don't mind I'd like to add my thoughts, albeit belatedly - better late than never?
Thanks for the kind words/encouragement, plus the constructive criticism. I've always said that to just slag something off without explanation is wrong, but pointing out where something has gone astray and suggesting alternatives is both fair and beneficial, it basically makes for a better event in the future. As it happens, as the organiser I wasn't happy with the results either, that's why I didn't hold LandyLive again this year. I realise you can't please all the people all the time, but if I can't do something well which makes the majority of folk go away happy, then I won't repeat the exercise. Besides the visitors who pay their hard-earned at the door, it's the livelihood of traders one has to consider. Yes the event had potential, but in my opinion not enough to warrant a second attempt, so couldn't ask them to gamble a second time around. With so many LR events in the calendar, I just couldn't compete, that's the bottom line. So ... sorry if you found the show disappointing, but a huge thanks to the traders, campers, day visitors and of course Marshals (true enthusiasts!!!  ) for supporting the event and braving the elements; yes it was rather soggy! |
