Prop UJ's and drive flanges. (If 2 piece are present.) are the easier items to check.
Beyond that much more investigation is needed, the above are the more typical culprits though. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

If it is the output shaft, flanges or uj do you think it is drivable?

It sounds a bit silly but when you change gear depress clutch, change gear, release clutch and then give it half a second or so before you press the accelerator. You loose a little momentum but it allows everything to spin up before you apply additional torque. Don’t be too aggressive and do everything nice and smoothly especially if you’re heading up a really steep incline putting everything under strain.
From what I can see most defenders have a degree of slack in the drive train. Mine certainly does. I’d happily continue to drive it. |

There are many things that can produce a clunk on gear change in a Defender, some minor , some major that could lead to a loss of drive. The comparatively complicated nature of the drive train makes this type of problem impossible to diagnose from a distance.
Since this problem has suddenly manifested itself I think it needs a professional opinion as you indicate in your other thread. As suggested above Grenadier might be able to help, but your Breakdown Cover provider is another possible source of local knowledge. Good luck |

Another possibility is the "A" frame ball joint.
However as has been mentioned above, the best way to drive a Defender is to be relatively smooth with the controls and pedals. My first wife was such a lead footed driver she managed to break a Salisbury diff, a transfer box, a gearbox and any number of half shafts It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten |

Sadly, driving to find a garage this afternoon resulted in whatever the problem is getting worse. In the end I was unable to come out of gear and just got a metal on metal sound. Car now recovered so hopefully the problem will be solved one way or another. Unfortunately RAC unable to find a hire car.

Europcar has some vehicles available. Wasn't sure of your dates, so picked Mon to Sat. Agencies are often closed on Sundays I'm afraid. Small variety available which should suit. https://www.europcar.fr/DotcarClient/step2.action If, by the time you contact them, there's nothing suitable, try Europcar Annemasse (45mins from Annecy and reachable by train) or Sallanches (Also 45 mins and again, reachable by train). PM has my contact details if you need further help or have lingo problems. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

You’re all welcome, but clearly I'd prefer i got no calls at all, because none of you have broken down. If you’re in the area and stopping off for a beer on the other hand, happy to help you place an order... Monsieur Le Grenadier
