Reckon you're right Steve, those doors/ shuts look 'factory', don't reckon it's that long though, it's only a 110 hi cap with the rear door in, so most likely 127"/130?.. When we were there on a Saturday eve there were a few shinies and some series 2/3 s! Working in West Ansty..

Cheers. Alex

I'm still trying to figure out if it's a standard '85 "square door" 127" or if it has been altered.

There are photos of others in as-built condition taken from similar angles here , here , and here . I haven't copied and inserted the photos here for copyright reasons.

Comparing these photos with the one at the start of this thread, there is definitely a difference of some kind in the rear body forward of the rear axle, but it is hard to say of the vehicle is actually longer or not. I can't really account for the difference if it isn't longer, but it's hard to make out.

I would expect that both the vehicles in the photos in the links above would be registered as 110" wheelbase for the reasons noted earlier.

Anyone know when the square doors became standard doors? Was it when the 127"/130" got its own production line and was no longer hand built by SV, or was it earlier? How many square door 127s were built?

I reckon that's a very early 127, possibly a prototype. The second row doors are significantly shorter than those of those others that you've linked to - single pain of glass rather than one fixed and one sliding. The shorter cab length that results allows for the fitting of a standard hi-cap tub. It's pretty much a king cab and I can't imagine that there are second row seats, although bizarrely there is a side step.

The squared off rear doors on regular 127's were phased out pretty early on, I think. Certainly before it offically bacame the 130. Darren

Well spotted, I'd missed that. The doors handles are also different on "the beast of Exmoor" since they match those on the front doors, whereas on the factory 127"s they are slightly higher.

So it is looking as though it might be a 127" chassis but with a standard 110" hi-cap tub, and a shorter cab. Even more interesting!

As you say, possibly a prototype (although the reg doesn't suggest a factory prototype).

If there is a rear seat, the legroom must be non-existent!
