What my 130 has been doing for last 6 weeks
My 130 has driven me to work every morning at silly o'clock and then sat still on Stanlow Refinery doing next to nothing all day then it has driven me home at the end of some very long days, while I have been working on a shutdown. See attached link.

This is the only picture I can find in the public domain, it does not do justice to how big the Mammoet PTC35 crane is. Those if you who travel along M56 or A5117 will have noticed the crane.
Hopefully soon there may be time lapse video released of the major lifts we carried out.

Unfortunatly I could not manage to get a shot of my 130 with the Mammoet PTC35 crane, but I will try this week before the crane dismantling starts.

I've can see it from my office window, it is bloody huge! I remember the head being delivered some months ago to Stanlow, and all the disruption it caused by having to dismantle half of the motorway to get it on! An engine to TDi for!

I was down at Milford Haven 12 years ago when they changed their cat cracker on a shutdown, we put the twin cage passenger hoist up the tower for the job. The crane came in on 72 Artics from Belgium company Sarens it was huge.
Two of our baby cranes in comparison are on the other side of the river from you on the horrid smelling animal waste processing factory yuccc hate going there cant get the smell off me for days horrid. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

The real thing has cost a bit more than €1500! The Mammoet crew have been great to work with but they don't give away any toys.

The crane was built using a 700Te Telescopic and a 200Te telescopic. It took 5 weeks to build.

GUM97. Did you get to watch any of the big lifts from your office, there were 6 lifts completed by the PTC crane, the new head as featured in article was on a perfect blue sky day, the final 2 lifts were on typical Ellesmere Port weather, very wet and cloudy.

Noworries - who were you working for at Milford Haven, I was there in 2001 but can not remember who supplied the hoist.

I was working for Cox Hire Centres at the time and yes back end of 2001 does sound about right and I also did the previous large shutdown when we were still LPH Equipment before being brought out by Cox.

This was all the stuff on my lorry when it was loaded in our yard ready to go. Twincage Passenger Hoist all the mast, jumbo ties and landing gates.
I had a nightmare when I took it down, I was supposed to be on site for 07.30 so that meant leaving Bicester 01.00 to account for a taco break ect, Got up went to the yard lorry had flat batterys, my girlfriend was doing the escort in my Range Rover so she towed it and bumpstarted it, getting into Wales my wipers were getting slower and my headlights dimmer, so phoned Volvo assist and they said call in to the local Truck and Bus dealer they are in Llanfrinac I think anyway suffice to say it was a backwater yes artic accessible not abnormal load accessible. New battery's fitted I got to site late but not bad 09.30. Missed induction so they wouldn't let me on. Then the cert for the anti spark on the exhaust was wrong ect ect. Nightmare place !! We were working with guys from Leadwood Engineering I think.
Changed jobs in 2004 and have been playing with cranes not hoists and cabins anymore. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Just counted up there is 78mtrs of mast on that lorry (220ft) sound about right for that tower in Pembroke ??
A few years earlier we also did Murco on the Milford Haven side, I have friends that live just down the road in Herbrandston he manages the Speedy hire branches in the refineries I went to college with him to many years ago. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Oh yes the joys of site induction, nearly 4hr drive to take some timber frame kit to the other side of the country, the 7.5tonner I was driving decided to lose the air when a pipe gave way. I bodged it back on but was half hour late to site. I was supposed to unload then stay with the rest of the crew to finish the job and come home 2 days later. I got to sleep in my own bed that night as they could unload me but I couldn't work untill I'd gone through induction the next day so I came home and started another job the next day. At least it got the boss to get the maintenance sorted on the vehicles, that was an expensive day for him, good earner for me as he paid you from when you left in the morning so a few hours overtime for sitting driving!

As I am on different sites most days I get inductions all the time from the very simple which we like sign here that's the bogs ect to the ones we hate ie Crossrail any where Nuclear or Refinery 8 hrs poss medical for climbing cranes deff drugs and alcohol tests, treat you all the same as if you are the thickest human alive. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

It's such a lottery with site inductions, as you say some are so anal whereas others are "Just sign the bit of paper next time you're passing the office"

Hoist looks familiar, it was Ledwood who you would have been working with. I use hoists on many of the jobs I run, the Stanlow plant is 70m heigh so not a bundle of fun to climb up the steps 20+ times a day, also hoists are more reliable in the wind than tele cranes with luffers that stop at 10m/s.

I agree inductions are very variable in content and quality, some sites forget that the induction is the welcome to the site and should portray the correct message, often the induction staff forget that us contractors have a lot more experience of construction and maintenance than they do. I have always found Milford Haven Refinery one of the most welcoming sites the security and Fire Techs are all great guys.

I have to renew my CCNSG passport on Monday, single day refresher course, plenty of coffee needed to survive it plus the bill to pay. Oh joy.

Speedy team on MHR have some excellent kit and are really responsive when the inevitable crisis develops. I stay in Broad Haven when I'm on Milford Haven, good to have the view of St Brides Bay after a shift on a Turnaround / Shutdown. 130 Puma HCPU with an Artica 240LR Demountable Camper

RFT- Unfortunately I didn't see any of the lifts! If I'd have know when they were I would have made a point of watching, but never mind!

The best induction I ever got was only a few weeks ago at the biggest biscuit making company in the UK, who shall remain nameless Whistle I turned up on site (and I was only going to take pictures and some measurements on a tanker, 10 min job!)...
"Been here before sir?"
"No, I haven't"
"You'll have to have a full induction then, takes around 6 hours, shall we start now?"
"I don't think so! I'll have to charge your employer for sitting around for 6 hours, and at rates of £200/per hour consultancy fee, it'll be damn expensive!"
"Not a problem sir, sign in, take a hair net and hard hat and close the gate behind you."

thats a serious crane! i only play with the smaller ones.....800te mobile to date. Bet the lifting plan and berthing study was fun for that lot!

No I don't work for Mammoet, I'm an Oil Refinery Turnaround Engineer (Contractor) lots of planning and studies for this job but all very much worth while
