Having read around racks on here, I decided the Maxxraxx was the way to go so I duly ordered one with the 25mm spacer (to get around the maxxraxx bracket fouling on the rings on the support rails like here):
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic28004.html?highlight=maxxraxx However, even with the spacer fitted, the upright for the rack was still tight against the spare wheel. (Wheels are LR HD Steel wheels with Goodyear Wrangler MTR 235 85/R16 tyres on) Click image to enlarge "Bollix" thought I. So a note to Maxxraxx and their chap Kevin was quick off the mark with suggestions of how to remedy. One was with an adjustable tow fitting like the Dixon Bate ones. At the same time, this one appeared for sale on here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic41308.html As it was only in Bristol, I took a punt on it but it soon became clear that that was not going to fit my LR standard fitting . Whilst it looked like it would, the holes didn't marry up (This was the DB202090) Click image to enlarge "Bollix again" thought I So a note was fired off to Bradley who make the Dixon Bate fittings and another helpful chap, Glenn, suggested what I really needed was a DB202091 which has the right elongated holes to marry. He even offered to send me the back plate to try, keep it if it fit and return the unused DB202090 back plate) It fitted a treat Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge As I was going down this route, Kevin from Maxxraxx also suggested I should fit some lock-out bolts to stop any movement in the adjustable plate. These were drilled, tapped and fitted this weekend Click image to enlarge So whilst it's been a bit of a journey to get here, I've now got a suitable solution and learned a few bits in the process. More importantly, I've come across two companies that have gone above and beyond in their Customer Service for me. In this day and age where Customer Service is lacking in so many of the larger corporate organisations, this was indeed incredibly refreshing and I'd recommend both Maxxraxx and Bradley without hesitation. Thanks chaps |
