Look good Mark, Just to clear up, do you have wheel spacers on? If not any dramas? Cheers Ian Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

A very nice Defender but i think the tyres are far too wide for Boost alloys and it must handle like a Duvet with a space-hopper on each corner... a bit overkill and i think 265's look and perform better. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Personal opinion or not, maybe it should have been kept to yourself? Another quality post from the 'fun police!'
Here's my pennethworth MM I think they look much better. As it is YOU that will have to put up with the handling I'm sure that for the sake of less than £200 you have the sense and sensibility to get a set of modulars IF the handling is unacceptable as PC Red-Dot suggests. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

K9F.. thanks for having your say. I have owned and worked on Defenders since 1972 and i know engineers more qualified than most on here that agree that over 235 on a 90 is just overkill and look driven. Too many on here think that a bigger is better and it is very rarely the case. Keep spending your money on your toys and i will keep mine working on the hills of Scotland. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I think for what it's worth that sometimes a smaller width size tyre will be better in certain circumstances, and in others you won't beat the wider tyre, you can't have the perfect tyre for all conditions. So in the end it comes down to looks and personal preference. After all it would be really boring if we all had exactly the same look gear etc.
So live and let live as long as we are happy with our personal vehickle then great. So take a chill pill chaps it's Sunday Morning and all is well. Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

Agreed bud....it would seem certain members are being exactly the same on here as they were on an Audi forum I used to be part of (assuming it's the same person using that user-name, of course)..... if i remember rightly, they were as 'appreciated' there too for their 'positive' comments...... As for the handling, it's absolutely fine..... Ian, no spacers or anything mate....and no issues so far, either, with the exception of the rear wiper being pressed against the rear screen as per my other post (which will be sorted). I'm sure our resident "expert" will be back along in a minute to tell us all about his 150 years experience with the marque, and all kinds of problems I'll encounter in the future running these tyres with the Boosts/no spacers, etc etc,...... but..... in my opinion only he can (pleeease excuse my comments here mods, I really don't want my thread turning into a slanging match)...... ram it! As for 'working in the hills in Scotland', assuming the rest of us don't use our Defenders as they're intended, thats just an insult to most people on here. To the rest of you, thanks for the comments Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey Last edited by MuddyMarky on 14th Mar 2010 9:38am. Edited 1 time in total |

Shall not be drawn into a heated debate but at nearly half a century old I have met many people who if you claim to have had a black cat - they then profess to have had one bigger and blacker - ring any bells?
MM sought advice and acted upon it - maybe you should have piped up sooner? Other historical comments from your postings (not posted by me I hasten to add) have mentioned such things as 'barrel of laughs' and 'fun in your house!' Without wishing to appear confrontational it just appears on the face of it that you have somewhat of a miserable disposition! No offence meant or implied just an obsevation from a 'fellow engineer with obviously no where near as much experience as yourself!' It is a lovely sunny day enjoy it and smile whilst doing it! Willy since when has sitting on the fence become one of your traits? Watch out for splinters! Can't find your pokey stick today then? MM still fancy your 'best mate!' Fiiiiggggghhhhhttttt!!!!! OK, i will reply to posts in future with only what the poster wants to hear... sorry if i was confrontational in your asessment of what i had to say. Yes a nice Defender for sure! (But THAT number plate is kicking the ass a bit)???
I was on an Audi forum but not under my name on here.. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS.. |

Wasn't about what I wanted to hear or not, as Malc said above, I asked peoples advice on some stuff and acted upon it. I thought I'd post the pics, as I've had quite a few PM's about 'what I've done' as regards to the wheel/tyre questions. I just thought I'd let everyone else see the result too.
To be honest, it was my money spent (on car - wife's money on number plate), if someone doesn't like either, I'll try really hard not to cry myself to sleep after reading the comment. Mark 2011 110 XS DC Stornoway Grey Last edited by MuddyMarky on 14th Mar 2010 9:50am. Edited 1 time in total |
