Luckily the monitor is just above me so I can just pull out and replace the power cord easily.
It's the OBD that really bothers me - I've got the first TÜV in 2 weeks and they'll be looking for any excuse (as usual). I just can't figure out if I could have got it wrong - if any of the wires was in the wrong place, surely all hell would break loose ![]() Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. Given the power supply to the OBD socket is always on shouldn't you expect having something plugged in there to draw current?
As for your 24V step up driver, are you switching that on the 12V side or the 24V side? If you're switching the 24V side then I would expect that to draw something all the time to run the power supply electronics. They're good but they aren't *that* good. Ditto a 5V power supply. Even the best ones capable of doing 1000mA at 5V will be drawing a 10-20mA quiescent current. |

Agreed 100%
I guess I just haven't used the 110 much recently, except for short trips with the lights, washer heater and blower motor on (perhaps the alternator also couldn't keep up). Combined with a 300mA drain, a dead 68Ah battery after a week isn't so surprising. The Scangauge (OBD drain) on it's own shouldn't be a problem for at least 3 weeks - perhaps I just never noticed before ![]() Forgot to say, I tested the stepper and it draws no current when the lights are off ![]() Thanks to all Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I was thinking above too.

That's Odyssey PC1500 capacity and that what it looks like is in the picture above.
On the note of the OBD port, could you wire it so that the permanent 12V feed is ignition switched or off the aux battery or something? Edit: in fact, couldn't you just put everything that was running the main battery down on to the aux battery? |

What sort of time period are we talking about to flatten the PC1500?
If talking abut a few weeks then various parasitic current draws are the cause. If talking about say 8 hours then either you have a heater plug relay stuck on or similar which should be detectable with a high current draw via a clamp meter. If battery is going flat within a few hours and no large current draw measured by a clamp meter (several amps) then the battery if fully charged is discharging internally within it self. Brendan |

Yes - there are 2 PC1500s, so 136Ah in total but the controller disconnects them if the main battery runs down (thank God) so I can always start off the second.
I'm loathed to run the OBD off the second battery as it just "doesn't seem right" and there will probably be unforeseen problems (like killing the second back-up battery). Brendan - I guess it took a week or so, so current drain from the reversing monitor and OBD for sure. What's funny is that if I leave the Scangauge plugged in at the OBD end but disconnect at the device end there it still draws current - must be a transformer in the plug or something ![]() But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

So you had this problem before you extended the OBD wiring?
My Scanguage is permanently plugged in and I have left it for 3weeks with the alarm on and my Defender still started first time . If you did not have this problem before adjusting the OBD socket position then maybe you should be looking at that. That's what I keep thinking but I've double checked the OBD wiring both ends (using the old wiring and the circuit diagram as guide), everything is insulated with heatshrink and the cable is new. SG and BAS interface function perfectly.
I keep wondering if pulling the cabling (gently!) could have caused a short etc. but this seems like a computer-confusion problem and not just a chafing wire... I hate intermittent faults ![]() Dejected, Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
