I am in the same situation, when I asked I couldn't get a straight answer. Some were obvious looking at pictures that they wouldn't fit. I even used Google looking for pics of spare wheel carriers and couldn't find any that featured LR light guards. The only one that looks like it might fit is the mantec one as it seems the bottom hinge is below the bodywork and wouldn't foul the guards and bolted through the rear crossmember. I haven't got one yet, it's a big investment and I want to be sure. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

It's nice to know im not alone in this struggle. I agree the mantec looks like a contender. But id like to see what others are available. As I been fitting alot of mantec carriers at work and im not a huge fan of the way they're made.

If you go with a mantec one, please post something on here so I / others can see what it looks like with LR guards.

Well that looks good enough evidence for me. I shall get one for mine. I only wish some of the other manufacturers would make their products to fit especially some of these single arm carriers such as the safari equip one etc. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

Does the safari single arm not accomadate for the guards? To be honest it looks like the obvious choice but two things stopped my wanting it. 1, its rather pricey2, with a single arm carrier you cant fit the NAS rear step with it.
I shall be ordering me a mantec hopefully sooner than later |

I would hazard a guess and say there's plenty of room with the Safari Single Pivot perhaps.

@K9F, a safari equip mount won't fit because the guards that I have (which I'm led to believe are genuine LR) are the backwards L shaped ones and go almost as far as the bottom door hinge so you looking at it the only wheel carriers that could fit mine is where the bottom mounting is on the rear crossmember and stays below the body work hence why the mantec one seems to be the only option. It's a real shame though, especially as I'd rather buy a quality carrier like the one you've got fitted. I guess I could get the lamp guards removed? They were already on there when I bought it and would only leave 2 holes each side that would need filling etc as the bottom of them use the body to crossmember bolts. Anyone have any experiences of bodywork repairs, specifically hole filling on defender panels? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

I have fitted a Mantec swing away wheel carrier. The bottom bracket mounts onto the cross member therefore it will clear the light guards with no issues. Hope this helps.
Click image to enlarge I've found this to be a quality item and the only thing I've had to do is spray some grease onto the piston now and again, it does the job for me. Josh,
Can you not get the lampguards 'reworked to fit?' If you look at the bumperettes they too are not designed to fit with a swingaway. I had the mounting brackets ground off the right hand one and new angled brackets carefully welded on to pick up different holes. Any good fabricator would be able to alter your lightguard to fit and it would undoubtedly be hardly noticeable afterwards if done correctly. Don't compromise on quality just because of a lightguard. "Make it fit" would be my advice, you'll get a greater sense of satisfaction with the end result too.. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
