The 'health and safety' gurus will be all over me for this one but as your need is relatively urgent and you're ready to fit by the sound of it:
If you can use your smaller compression tool to compress a section of your new springs some strategically placed heavy duty cable ties (or strops) can retain the compression. Move the tool and compress another section, progress until it is compressed sufficiently for your needs. Be careful and use sufficient ties. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

If you have undone both dampers, removed both wheel, released both springs, and removed the ARB fixing. Then you should not need spring compressors.
But if you do for some strange reason then just use the ones you've got to compress as much of the spring as they can, and that should be enough. What is stopping the axle from dropping? Radius arms? What brackets are you fitting them with? Andy |

Thanks everyone, C90Steve, killer just a bit too far, K9F I have some ratchet straps so may try that, Landy Andy only had one wheel of, may be do both at once. Also your views on having both wheels off and dampers made me think the HD anti roll bar may be worth removing as I'm replacing it with the original. _______________________________

As Andy said .. Over the years I've fitted many springs, from Standard/HD/2" lifted etc etc to many Defenders ... Never needed a spring compressor.
With both wheels off and the shocks disconnected [And ARB if fitted] Whack axle stands under the chassis and drop axle as far as it goes Even on 2" lift springs, with a bit of extra 'Foot' pressure on the hub, you have ample space to ping the springs in .... Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Spring compressor available for use if needed, and I'm not a million miles away.
Let me know. It wasn't me! |

Yer mate, you wont need no compressors. Jack up and let the axle drop will be more than enough to get standard height springs in place CSK Automotive

I put a +40mm set of springs on my 90 without compressors! Just jacked up the body with the shocks (rear) disconnected. Easy peasy.....

Look forward to hearing how you get on as i need to replace some +2 springs and dampers (a little old and ready for refresh) so looking at what to buy and if i can do at home myself Defender 90 TD5 County -
You need only two tools in life: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesnt move and it should: WD-40. If it moves and shouldnt: duct tape it. |

Well after putting into practice the advice given here, the new springs are in very simple just as stated by everyone. Even had time to change the rear ARB. _______________________________
