Fitting instructions can be d/l (pdf) from here.
http://www.redbooster.com/lifestyle-mentor.../tdci-puma It will be nice to wear light footwear, not get bunions, joint trouble, & allow my wife to drive the XS comfortably. Its cheaper & less Defender compromising than an auto box conversion. It may increase saleability Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. I avoid the issue of traffic gear changes by simply idling along in 1st or 2nd, by effectively follow the traffic and not being a part of it. A method I've used for years as im a very lazy clutch changer after an ankle injury a few years back. It was once a method I used to make life simple in traffic yet nownin my awesome defender which I love like a cherished pet, its an absolute must.
I too have considered the rooster upgrade but it is rather pricey. I know maybe you cant put a price on joint issues. Especially as I have had a progressively worsening knee pain that I may be able to pin on the clutch stiffness. Also I have testicles and whenever I consider the upgrade/mod, they tend to scream 'man up ' I am bafflef that land rover Simy havent bothered to introduce something similar to ease the clutch use. I dont want to sit myself down and think hard enough about how not very different my puma is to a 200tdi. So Im still on the fence but If you have the time and the spare cash its a very sensible upgrade and one im sure will make loving your defender much easier |

Just google "remote servo" there are lots of kits available as these are popular upgrades to classic cars you could fit one almost anywhere under the bonnet. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Hi Dave, I have not had it fitted yet, to be done when my baby goes in for her annual service & MoT, in the near future. To Theorangebandit; Puma clutches are better than any Defender before (but not as light as Series clutches). If my gf likes a light clutch, that's a good thing. She'll like my Defenders, want me to keep this one, & may even talk about 4x4 driving off road without "automatic" in the same sentence. Hi Big Wheels, Ah I see, well the upside is I have decided to purchase one after speaking with the Owner of Rebooster Rod, extremely helpful guy, however at the moment I am also discussing it with a very good friend of mine who owns a big garage in South Wales re the installation, he worked for a company in Australia many years ago who specialised in Land Rovers, so having plenty of experience plus a good name in the area for repairs and customer service its going there when received.
The Puma does have a lighter clutch than some of the earlier models as LR in response to many complaints about heavy clutch pedals installed a modified pedal box and return spring, but even with that my old knees cannot cope especially holding the pedal at bite point!! as I let it out my knee gives up, I have almost crunched the bollards a few times in Tesco and reversing it for any distance especially with the caravan is excruciating!! So hopefully in a few weeks Old Dave will be a happy Bunny as I cannot imagine selling my baby just because of my left knee. Will let you know what its like when fitted Regards Ole Dave |
