If i understand correctly, reverse selected. yes
Ignition on bulb lit yes ? then crank engine in reverse fuse blew yes ? Place in reverse inspect wiring to and from switch poss chaffed wire on gearbox, or wiggle lighting loom may induce fault. Place test bulb in place of fuse, bulb lights you`ve found your short, or you may have a faulty switch. electrics easy, innit |

Bought a nice new Gunson multimeter....just need the 2 week course to learn how to operate it!. Shows 12.45 Volts for your first check...think i've done the next two bits and all seems ok.........as this is intermittent I am heading for the reverse switch on the gearbox as suggested by martinfiattech..........curious about getting to it as from initial rooting about underneath it seems well hidden!.......cubby box out and floor up the way forward? Further to the above........rooted about and wiggled every wire I could find...replaced fuse and light on.......stood at rear admiring the bright glow and decided I'd had enough of electrics for today......shut the rear door.....light went out!....checked fuse......blown!.........any more suggestions folks?....not got a lot of hair to start with and all this head-scratching is not doing me any favours! |

Sorted mine(add smug smiley). Mats out, transmission tunnel out along with the associated faffing with the fuse board, cubby out, undercubby box out, plate off and found both wires had broken just between the plug and the switch. Joined and soldered back together and sorted. Checked gearbox level while I could get at the plug, fiddled with the handbrake then the hour and a half putting the effin thing back together

hiya as your light went out when you shut your rear door its looking like the switch should be ok.
did you place a test bulb in place of the fuse. As when your short appears the bulb will light and pull all current within the circuit to ground, if you rig it up on a nice length of wire. you have a nice bit of kit that's inexpensive and dead handy. I.E for arguments sake say , bulb positive pole to fuse holder top pin and bulb negative pole to fuse lower lower pin, remove fuse (the bulb will act as fuse so if it all goes wrong bulb blows and cuts power, just make sure none of the wires touch each other across the fuse holder) of course you need a 21 watt bulb. Then wiggle everything / slam doors when bulb lights you`ve got it. I`ve made one of these with a bulb and a buzzer its done me a great service for god knows how many years. Used it on Wednesday for exactly the same fault on a motorhome, blokie spent 200 quid on air flow meters (reverse lights on a ducato fead by air flow meter circuit, and all it was, was a short on his secondary electrics on his tow bar on his caravan, Which is good for me we don`t do caravans but it did look daft a motorhome and a caravan together, would you call that a terrace or a semi ? |
