ABS,TC,Handbrake warning lights.
Had All 3 lights on mi dash yesterday, after I restarted the engine they went off and didn't come back on till last night then stayed on,checked it this morning and they are still on.

Checked abs sensor cables and connectors for condition and security, which were very clean and secure.
T/box earth strap checked and cleaned (don't know if that helps??) also the earth behind header tank, again all were in excellent condition.
All electrical gubbins under the drivers seat, were clean and dry,(didn't disconnect anything coz I'm not sure what to check).
Wheel bearings are good and were greased when I replaced all the discs and brake fluid in June this year.
I have a mate with snap-on diagnostics, hopefully will be checked at weekend.

Has anybody got any other advice or useful links for trouble shooting.
FYI, mileage is 49k,so I assume thats why everything still looks clean.

Keep smiling Smile Big Cry
Cheers.

Seem to be a few sufferers around at the moment. All I can say is that I was plagued twice. The more recent was a pain to locate. The link below may be of interest perhaps and show you a potential way to go.....

There are other links within the threads. I know how frustrating it can be trying to find a fault like this. Electrically the sensors and harness can be insulation and resistance checked within about 15 minutes with the right equipment and a little knowledge direct from the modulator under the seat. This could potentially save you hours crawling underneath cleaning off the looms (especially if it's been waxoyled) looking physically for a fault.

Good luck...... Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Yeah there is a lot of information out there, it just makes it harder to learn when it's spread out over a number of threads/websites,lol.
Found this useful troubleshoot, although it's is for a Disco 2 up to 2004,can I assume it will apply to an 06 Defender?

I did the American website mod for the Disco 2 yesterday to mine. The difference was joining to the red/slate wire as there is no green/yellow one. I did find that the wires to the shuttle solonoids were quite suspect due to the insulation breaking down and cracking making the actual strands of wire look tarnished and on the verge of corrosion.

Big Cry Big Cry Juss bin ferra Big Cry diagnostic, (Mi mates Snap-On) Big Cry
code 60; bad earth,
code 63; pump failure 3, pump sticking.

Cleared the faults he went for a quick drive and all the warning lights stayed off,I got in started it the warning lights came back on, switched engine off, restarted it and the warning lights have gone:?: .He plugged his Snap on diagnostic back in and it registered Code 63 pump failure 3, pump sticking. Big Cry Big Cry (still no warning lights tho?).
Drove it home and the warning lights have stayed off, tho I have noticed, when I switch the ignition on, the ABS light goes out for a second then comes back on (I can't remember if this is normal??),when I start the engine and drive off the warning lights go out as they should.
Big Cry Big Cry Confused Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

ABS light does normally remain on until you reach 5-8mph then goes out. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Yeah, what I mean is when I switch the ignition on without starting the engine, the abs light comes on (with all the other lights,as it should) then the abs light then goes out for a second then comes back on, after I have started the engine the abs light stays on until I'm doing 4-5mph then goes out as it should.

I just don't remember whether the abs light used to go, on/off/on, before I started the engine,I seem to remember it staying on until I drove off

Meh, lights are back on Sad Does anyone have any website links about removing the ABS permanently,a few people have suggested it as an alternative but I can't find anyone who as actually done it (other than for trackday sports cars so any warning lights ain't an issue),which leads me to believe it's easier said than done.
Cheers.

Well after the failiure of my repair I bit the bullet and bought a new solonoid switch assembly. It's now on and we'll see how it goes. Before I.put it on I thought I'd do an ohms test across the thing like they show on the t'internet and my repaired one was reading at least.a full ohm above the new one which was the same as the website jobbie. One thing I noticed this time was evidence of brake fluid on one of the solonoids so it may be all apart again before long Rolling Eyes not a lot but it was there.

This any good,it's a kit for leaky modulators, think I read somewhere that a bit of fluid is ok???
http://www.jewellamberoil.com/sales/index....cts_id=190

Meanwhile I found a guy who does ABS delete/removal kits, brake lines and splitter/balancer,all he needs info as to size of hoses/connections, etc. Anyone????
Still can't find out whether the abs/tc/hb warning lights can be successfully switched off after removing the modulator.

Mine was reading every fault you could imagine...pump failure, pump not working when actuated....etc...etc....

In hind sight, it is obvious that what was happening was there was no voltage to the unit, so obviously it was doing nothing and therefore the ecu was registering all these faults.

My point being, sometimes a list of computer diagnostic faults can be misleading and the real fault is something simple and understandable involving basic electrical faults.

Don't write the system off yet and check that relay in the bottom of the seat box because it spends it's life swilling around in engine oil and water due to the common injector harness oil leak and good old land rover water ingress.

To switch them off I'd have thought that you'd just pull the fuse but I don't know how you'd fair at MoT time, your vehicle would be known to the tester as being fitted with ABS. I know that they can only test what is presented but could lead to awkward questions.

Pulling the 30 amp modulator fuse puts the lights on....

Yes but the MOT testers also know w're supposed to have catalytic converters but they never query where they've gone if removed. As long as the warning lights are not illuminated MOT time it'll be fine. Worse case scenario take the filaments out. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
