I wish you guys competing all the best of luck and certainly hope the grids expand but wonder why people are jumping in at this level if they have not done any lower events in lesser vehicles before?


Before I competed I used to think the same,, I'd spent many a year spectating on Rally's, my father competed, his friends competed, I thought I knew it all on the back of that. I could drive a car quick & these guys I was watching, I was thinking I could do so much better. Over a pint one night after a hard days spectating on the RAC my dad's mate said to me, if you think you can do better, go out there and do it but don't give it large until you have done. A few months later I bought my first rally car. The feeling you get after your first competitive rally stage is unreal and as you cross the line at the finish of that stage you are blown away by the intensity of it. It makes you realise just what little you know about driving on the loose. I've had some great highs on the way but I've also had some big lows, sitting in your wrecked rally car, unable to breathe or move through the force of the accident was one.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone, come and speak to us at an event and I think you'll find we're quite approachable if a little under pressure until we settle but there's an awful lot more to Motorsport than the 10 seconds you see as the car flashes by. As I've already said, this is my drivers first season competing, he's represented the UK in the Camel Trophy before but this is a totally different form of competitive driving, it's my first season navigating as I've always been the driver & boy has it made me appreciate my navigator! The reasons for competing in the Defender at this level? We could be here all night debating this one. It's horses for courses. I'm a car dealer for a living, if I questioned if everyone's choice of vehicle was appropriate for them in my mind, I'd never make a sale.....

come on supacat, surely your not gonna down these guys, driving off road is one thing, driving fast off-road is another, but racing off road in a privately owned £50k on wheels is a totally different ball game!! I have done a lot of driving in open areas and had fun but racing down tracks etc takes skill and nerve.

I wish i could have a go, and good luck with future races.
