Land Rover 4x4 alternative
Just asking........

If you were doing a lot of fast commuting / motorway miles and still needed a 4x4 of at least Freelander size what would you buy? BM52

Either a Freelander/Evoque...

Or a Volvo 4wd (XC70, or XC90) with the lovely 5-cylinder engine Thumbs Up Super-quiet on then motorway, and the D5 engine's known to be long-lasting. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

It would have to be a Land Cruiser for me 3.0 D4d with auto box.

Mrs Sparts has a Rav4 and its been faultless for the eight years we,ve owned it. 2005 Td5 90 XS

The Freelander 2 is according to many, especially the owners of them, the most reliable Land Rover ever built. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Freelander 2 or Evoque! Mum drives a Freelander, and it's not bad at all! Also went off-roading in an Evoque, and performed flawlessly Thumbs Up An engine to TDi for!

Thanks for the suggestions, I really like the FL2 but I am looking non LR as I don't really want to pay the premium for the badge and I won't need so much off road ability.

Looking mainly for a road car that does winter very well and when put off road onto bumpy tracks won't break.

A family member has a VW Tiguan that is always leaking and breaking down so the reputation is not good from my perspective!

Damn tricky. Have looked at an X3 but not sure, Allroads are good but also looking for the higher seating in a 4x4.

What to get? BM52

@TJ101
for some reason my wife really does not like Volvo's. I have had a company V70 for a while which was very good but I found it cramped in the driving seat - very long legs. I mentioned an XC60 to and even showed her one in a car park..... don't think it will happen but thanks anyway. Sad BM52

My in-laws have a Skoda Yeti, which is nice, and they reckon it's doing around 50mpg too. By contrast my parents have just ordered a Kia Sportage for delivery in May. It's a bit bland for my tastes but it's supposed to be pretty good and does come with a 7 year warranty. Darren
