285 section tyres are not recomended on a 7J wheel rim, I agree with FEKETE and think a 265 fits well on the standard 7J alloy, this is the main reason why I want 8 or 8.5J alloys myself.

Hello Matey,
Been a bit quiet this week! Phoned Devon just yesterday, they've sent the singleton wheel that needed powder coating away and are going to send me all four together. Not sure exactly when but hopefully next week. Got tyres sorted too. Was wondering ballpark with such large tyres what pressures you're running on! You're right I cannot wait! Hope you finally get your leak sorted next week by the way! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! With boots that size do you really need to see out of your side windows? Don't think so! Mad Max or what? Brilliant! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Mate, the opinion down here is tending to favour 255/85 - wider than standard, but gives close to 33" diameter (unlike 265/75 which is more like 32"), fills the arches better and no rubbing or guard issues. I say 'tending' only because with any 2 Defender drivers there'll be 3 views ! Many examples running 285/75 as well, but mostly with guard extensions and steel rims. Am not willing to do either to my new Deefer - trying to keep this more more 'street bling' this time . Personally, I have never had anyone give me a convincing argument for 285 over 255 or 265 - but always willing to learn ! I am looking to move to 255/85 BFG MT KM2 or possibly MT Baja Claw when my new truck arrives... As far as wheels themselves go, I must confess I like the look of the ZU alloy rim (see: http://www.safari-equip.co.uk/UserFiles/zu_rim_1_400.jpg ), which I understand will also deliver a wider track - but am not sure what the track gain is over the Boost alloy - grateful to anyone who can advise. They are expensive, but from time to time there are specials if you shop around. Hope this helps... Gavster 2010 Puma 110 |
