Need some info and advice please...
I've decided to remove my RAI (restrictive LR one) and go for airflow and hardware mods. KBX intake grill is on its way I'm also considering the air box mod to remove the propeller thing, but what precisely is it for? As I'll still be driving in dust for 4 weeks a year, I'm looking for a temporary dust filter idea - any suggestions? Cheers Matt *Edit* just found the info Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

If you do keep a RAI you could allways put a precleaner bowl on top for the dusty times and swop back to a scoop style one for the cleaner conditions.

On the other thread (that I should have found) someone, I think Glyn, suggested some stocking material over the top of the RAI. I'm now thinking of constructing something "stockingy" to clip over the side intake, maybe even using the (now useless) rivnuts above it...
Still don't know exactly what the propeller thing does or whether it's useful Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

It's supposed to be a water separator/trap, not really any use and really not needed with an RAI

I removed mine (be careful though, if you unclip it and remove it totally, you end up with a few holes in the airbox that need sealing up. better to break out the vanes then file the inside smooth)
Made a bit of difference... It seemed to give the same "improvement" as removing the RAI... engine seemed to rev a little easier. |

It's in the airbox inlet - can you PM me your E-Mail (the forum version won't take attachments)? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Trying to stay in trouble
I've been talking to BAS about various mods and want to test them one by one. This will ultimately include EGR, decat, intercooler and turbo with and without remap. I removed the RAI last night (fitting a KBX grill) and it has made no difference, although I believe it is more critical in hot weather. At some point, when I get time (and money) to test everything I will post objective (and hopefully at least semi-accurate) results. Bit p*ssed off at the mo, as I just fitted a new OEM aerial and the interference isn't any better - beginning to think the HU is the problem but that would be a bitch proving to LR... Air filter housing - its the black thing front right that's a bitch to get the top off
I was actually wondering why you wouldn't just take the air directly into the box and forget about the pipework to the outside. I suppose the air might be a bit warmer in the engine compartment but it would be water and dust free and a bigger intercooler should cool it down enough. Or am I barking?
