off-roaders most likely to pass their MOT first time
....... and according to the Daily Mail today ..... Defender comes last in the survey!

Interesting to note that "74.5 per cent of Defenders passed their MOT first time. The data showed 2,529 were tested with an average mileage of 28,376 less miles than any car in the top five list".

Almost 60% of all the failures reported related to lighting, signalling and tyres on 4X4's! Not exactly the most technically challenging items to keep up to the legal requirements.

Typical Daily Mail standard of reporting... accepting that MOT pass rates are a good proxy for reliability.

A deeply flawed suggestion in my view.

Lighting etc due IMO to damage often or not due to lack of care then time poor or pure lazy ness to put it right. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Or on some modern cars the fact that it's so bloody difficult to change a bulb.

The manual for the wife's Toerag had NO instructions for bulb replacement. Instead was a return to dealer job (unless you could get the details via one of the forums to discover which nondescript looking bolt in the engine bay turned the release mechanism to pop the entire headlight assembly out).

Or that lots of people appear to be oblivious having lost lights in the first place!

Hardly surprising that the defender finishes bottom. It an embarrassment to British engineering. Lots of neglect and laziness in design and execution. They come off the forecourt with rust, something every other car manufacturer eliminated nearly 30 years ago.
It could be brilliant, but Land Rover couldn't be bothered. If they put the same effort into the Defender as they do the rest of the range, it would be a good vehicle. http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/
