Scotland 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Zambezi Silver
[For Sale] Defender V8 Challenge/Trials Spec *must see*
For Sale we have our road registered V8 90 with the following specs.

Body/Chassis
The body and chassis are from a 2005 TD5. The vehicle was purchased by Devon 4x4 and driven to their workshop where the running gear, loom, dash etc was all removed to build an Ibex. We purchased the body and chassis around 3 years later still in as new condition. The chassis still looks as new with no signs of rust. The body is the same original factory paint with no rust bubbles at all.

Axles
The donor vehicle for our build was a C reg original 3.5 V8 90. Most parts were overhauled or replaced while transferring items from the old rotten body to the new shell. The rear axle was fitted with an ARB Air locker whilst the original 4-pin diff was fitted to the front for strengthening. The suspension consists of a full Gwyn Lewis Challenge suspension kit with Old Man Emu springs and shocks. The steering components have also been uprated to Sumo Bars.

Wheels and Tyres
The wheels and tyres are around 3 years old but only done a handful of events and were sourced from Devon 4x4. The tyres are 35” Simex Extreme Trekkers and the wheels were one of the first set of Aluminium Terrafirma Beadlockers supplied in the UK. An awesome combination with which feels like unlimited grip.

Engine and Gearbox
The original 3.5 V8 was transferred initially along with the manual gearbox and transferbox. Around 2011 the engine was swapped for a 3.9 EFI with an auto box sourced from a range rover. This engine runs sweet and start first time every time. The gearbox and transfer box are sound too.

Fuel
The fuel is supplied from a tank in the tub and a pump and filter system is contained under the drivers seat. The tank was used to prevent the need for any heavy protection plates for tanks under the defender and also to leave room for a rear winch setup in the future.

Exhaust
The defender has tubular manifolds with a custom rear exhaust. This exits through the rear cross member with a single straight through silencer. The results need to be heard to be appreciated.

Winch and bumper
As the land rover was designed with RTV’s and challenges in mind the winch had to be as far back as possible for the maximum approach angle. To accomplish this the radiator was sat on top of the engine rather than behind the cab. This works extremely well, providing sufficient cooling whilst reducing weight and a necessity for long water pipes.
The winch contained completely behind the grill is a 8274 which was overhauled before the install and upgrades include the Gigglepin uprated brakes and a Bow motor 2. We extended the drum by 3” and a mounting plate was welded in to the front cross member. No off the shelf bumpers would achieve the maximum approach angle that we were looking for so we fabricated our own including a gigglepin +3” Stainless steel rope fairlead. The aluminium skid plate was also bent and welded to protect the steering components.

Rear Storage Tray
During the build we were conscious not to destroy the perfectly good shell and chassis so to mount all of the recovery equipment we created a metal frame covered with chequered plate. This mounts in the hoop mounts on the tub and has space for a spare tyre, waffle boards, Hi lift jack, X-eng ground anchor and a plastic tub for straps and shackles etc.

Event History
After the build the defender was used for off road treasure hunts and RTV’s, winning the majority of events that we entered. This is a very competitive motor. Whilst continuing these events we took part in Mudmaster and were scouted by Roger Crawthorn (Land Rover Technical PR manager and ledgend) for being “a very capable standard looking 90”. We were invited to a photo shoot and outing with Top Gear Magazine and Tom Ford.

We will be sad to see the Defender go and miss the awesome sound but we are now competing in Comp Safaris and don’t have the time to use this vehicle like it should be.
