Mike,
Just a quick note of thanks for taking up the baton with Caterham's issue. I believe it has reached a satisfactory agreement. I hope his future worries will be little ones and Defender ownership for him will settle down. Amen. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

you had better be able to strip the diffs in the new ones! Much more useful than putting pretty carpets in.

Mike,
Just wanted to take the time to thank you for standing behind us with the issues we had with our Defender and the supplying dealership. Thanks also to my local dealership, Lindacre Ipswich for agreeing to check the vehicle over and for spending the last two days getting it back to perfect mechanical order again. The case of wine was much appreciated too. Richard |

Well you had to ask,
Could you please help me again with the on going warranty repairs and damage to my 90. ys11hwd current mileage 23856 Brenda and yourself have already looked into the transmission issues and they have been resolved thank you very much. However the corrosion to the windscreen frame and front bulkhead appears to have ground to a halt. The vehicle has also started to leak water in thru the n,s,f, corner of the windscreen I informed sturgess Leicester of the leak when it went in about a month ago for its two week stay for its gearbox work they told me it would be better to do all the work in one go. Fair enough I thought, but have heard nothing from them apart from the week before last, could I bring the car to there bodyshop so they could take a few more pictures of the rusty bits to send to yourselves. I also mentioned the damage they caused to the car while it was in there service department, the bodyshop knew nothing of this as the service manager told me directly when we had a chat it would all be taken care of, at the same time he offered me a job in his workshop ? I was flattered but I just want my car fixing please. (that's a new one even for me and I`ve been round a few garages in my time, nearly all my interviews have taken place in a pub or as the other week my so called mate set me up for an interview I thought I was going to help rewire a ducato but there you go. I will admit it I do miss working with him hes a good bloke but the 30 mile drive there and back is a bit much, he was`ent to happy. But he will get over it ) . I have had a few calls from Brenda but she tells me she will be away till the 26 th and will get back to me. And the service advisor dealing with my car is on a course. I`am starting to think I`am getting fobbed off after all its still under warranty why does it take so long to get authority for a simple repair, I`am now left with water coming into my car and dripping over some little black box with bosch written all over it and 4 wires plugged into it. It would be nice to know what it does. As we all know electricity and water don't mix I have covered it in plastic for the time being but the wiring looms in the dash are getting damp and I grow concerned for there condition. As a technician of 23 years experience I know only to well how water travels along wires till it gets to something expensive or shorts out and causes a vehicle fire. This I do not want to happen, it took a long time to find this car and I still get up every morning look out the bedroom window and am very pleased its still there, Sturgess also told me they have a crankshaft front pulley seal on back order for it and they would ring me when it arrives. As a coincidence at work we have had a couple of mod 110 s dropped in for repair so while I was sorting out parts from them I asked the storeman at sturgess if the seal had arrived "yes its here sir". Well I hav`ent spoken to them, I wondered if they would ring me any time soon, I`am going to drop in to there bodyshop tomorrow morning on my way to work to see if there has been any movement . I would appreciate your help in this matter as I`am getting no where fast. yours hopefully, Martin Fitzgerald |

Hello mike,
I write to ask if you have had time to look into my latest issue with my land rover and a few issues I`am presently having with sturgess Leicester. After a frank exchange of views and opinions (via phone call) between myself and the service manager regarding repairs to the vehicle and frequency of visits, etc I would like to know if the gearboxes that are fitted under warranty repairs are new line fit units, factory recon units, or reconditioned by an external supplier. As I`am trying to understand why a gearbox that has never been off roaded, used for towing, and has only covered 194 miles should fail / leak so quickly. Are they tested on production, or could an alignment issue be a possible cause I assume the mating between the main gearbox and transferbox are secured via dowls to ensure correct clearance and true running of shafts and seals therein, is there a correct bolt tightening sequence to ensure everything goes down square. There are also a few issues I would like to discuss via a phone call if you could find time, Your input would be gratefully received, martin. |

hello mike could you get one of your team to give me a ring some time on Monday,
I collected my car from the sturgess Leicester to find its gained more damage, on asking the receptionist as to why the gearbox had faulted he was unable to tell me and did`ent seem to want to I asked to see the job card but he did not know where it was. I did not press the issue but took the car and left. I now feel I have no confidence in this dealer and would like it if you could recommend a dealer in my area who is a defender specialist, knows the vehicle and can be trusted to repair it with out causing return visit after return visit, as it now faces major body repairs the only thing I want it going back there is for them to repair the damage they have caused to it. I which i have been forced to live with for the last 3 to 4 months this I find unacceptable in this day and age. As this recent issue is the straw that has broken the camels back ....... I would ideally like it to go as is to a fresh dealer so they can access the vehicle as it stands and repair all the damage and carry out the rest of the warranty repairs. This would go some way in restoring my confidence in the brand, repair network and not to mention the vehicle its self as I believe a 2 year old vehicle should have so many problems |

Hi mike
Hope you can help please I have a 2010 defender and I am having problems with my local main dealer relating to warranty work dating back to September last year. I have made numerous phone calls and no call back (all dates recorded) and in the end went through customer services who initially helped put me through to a more senior manager who now is also failing to return my calls. I am funding an extended warranty and now have several more issues with my defender as well as the outstanding repairs, my main concern now is I can not lock my vehicle or alarm Your thoughts would be welcomed Thank Mike |
