I remember someone put up a good guide on here a while back so it might be worth having a search for 99 relay and looking through the threads.

I've fitted a 20 second delay relay to my rear wiper, which came as a kit that I found on eBay:

If just installed on its' own, it makes the rear wiper work intermittently. However, by adding an extra wire from the spare terminal (green wire with blue spade connector) to the back of the rear washer switch, the wiper will run continuously when the washer switch is pressed.

You could, I suppose, fit a 99 relay on the rear too, but it'd be a bit overkill and a right faff to use. Darren

Shocked

I couldn't disagree more! Press wiper button on/off drive along as normal, see window needs wiping again and switch wiper on and leave 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Could you see what the part number is on the end of the relay?

Sorry if I shocked you Laughing Perhaps I just don't use the rear wiper enough to see the benefit.

Not without taking my rear door apart, I'm afraid Confused

It was a while ago that I bought it so I'll have to dig out the details from my home computer. Darren

when the front wiper relay is replaced by the VW type, then there is the standard relay surplus. Could be used to control the rear wiper:
http://www.landypedia.de/index.php/Defende...mbauten%29

From my very personal view, I was inclined to follow the above instructions. But before doing so I changed my mind, thinking that I drove an 88" for years with rarely missing the rear wiper, and for 1 year the 2.2 110" and occasionally using it, but never ever continuously nor in a intermittend fashion. Cannot think of my rear screen as that needs to be cleaned everey 20 sec.

I rather think the other way: I will see if I can modify the swith (for the rear wiper) in the dash so that it will not stay locked when first time pushed but instantly return the the "off" position. Itīs just like the screen wash. You only use it when you really need it. And you cannot forget to turn it off - I really hate it when the rear wiper was forgotten to be turned off and wipes and wipes ..

Some great replies there thanks Thumbs Up
If your happy with your on and off setting then stuck with it, myself on the other hand can see a great benefit with intermittent wipe, Very Happy
I didn't think of using the surplus one from the front Embarassed great idea!

I could count on one hand the amount of times I have used a rear wiper on any of my defenders over the 20+ years of owning them .

BUT still fancy fitting intermittent rear wiper!

WHAT IS IT ABOUT PLAYING WITH LAND ROVERS THAT MAKES US FIT GADGETS WE DON'T NEED OR PROBLEY EVER USE?

I've used the front intermittent on the rear wiper of mine, works quite nicely Smile

I used the 99 relay to get an adjustable rear wiper.

K9f posted the wiring diagram, here are a few photos (sorry about the poor wiring).

I personally love this modification, because beforehand I was always pressing the button to get a wipe every time I wanted to look in the rear view. Now I can set it once and leave it alone.

I guess it depends upon how often you use the rear view mirror. Barney
