Or buy this harness:
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic26097.html It takes a couple of hours to fit and comes with a "free" new switch Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

So after a bit of research, rimmer bros are selling genuine LR switches online for £103+vat so I've ordered a Lucas one which including delivery to the most northern wastelands of Scotland is less than £50. So next question is can i replace it myself or is it a job for the garage? I'm hoping it's a case of taking the plastic steering wheel column bits off, removing the old switch and putting the new one in and returning the plastic bits. Does that sound about right? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness" Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas made the refrigerators, too. If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night, since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one you use, nothing happens!" Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |

Yep, No more than that. If I remember well: Take out first the piece that are at the bottom of the instrument panel (2 screws), then the upper and the lower cover of the steering column (need a little bit of play to take out but finally goes out). Loose the nut that keep the switch in place, change it and then, reverse engineering. The covers are a little bit dificult to put and take out. Remember that a grommet is located at the left: dont forget to put it during the installation. No more than 1 hour work Cheers and good luck Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Perhaps fit one of these too whilst you've got it apart

I definitely want to get one of those to add another layer of security but the truck is in for a service in the morning and funds won't allow it this month 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold) Looking for another to replace it. The road less travelled.... is a muddy one! |

wonder if the later headlight switches are weaker than the older ones , in my 93 k reg tdi I had 80/100 ( I think I tried some 100/120 for a while ) bulbs and never had relays and never had any switch problems only had 1 bulb connector melt ( but I've seen that happen with standard bulbs )

I had the same problem, didn't take long to swap them over, & I think i also went for the Lucas part from Rimmer Bros.

Mine had failed 20 miles south of Inverness - and I still had 120 miles to go!!! Luckily mine could still work if I could get the switch to stick halfway between sidelights and headlights. My local garage put a blob of solder on the switch free of charge when it was in for its service yesterday so the switch is in my toolbox as a spare for next time. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)

I was able to use my driving lights on my A-bar as dipped or main beam, as no amount of persuasion or fiddling with the switch would get the headlights to come on.

I.AM_a driver have you got a brother named Chris? I met Chris last year in Oxfordshire while we were training for the same job and he was from Edinburgh, with a brother called Mark who was part of Lothian 4x4 response. Coincidence? 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
