Land Rover Tool LRT-19-009 TD5 Fuel Pump Removal Tool
A few weeks ago I had cause to take out the in-tank fuel pump in my 2002 Defender 110. By the time you have managed to get the tank out you will think the hard part is done, however you still have one obstacle to overcome... Removing the locking ring that is holding the pump in place. The good news is that there is a special Land Rover tool, LRT-19-009 and you can buy it for around £90 from DingoCroft. The problem being, however was that I did not have time to order up the part so set about fabricating my own version and it worked brilliantly. So if you are of the disposition whereby you enjoy making things using odd bits of scrap lying around your shed, then this is how I did it; Using some off-cuts of 25 mm mild steel and a handful of best reclaimed nuts and bolt... Click image to enlarge Ok it is not rocket science, but it worked and only took 30 minutes to make after a little bit of measuring up. The tool fits perfectly over the top of the pipe unions so no chance of breaking anything. The only thing I found I had to do was because the tank was out of the vehicle I had to wedge the tank in the corner of the garage to stop it from turning. Awkward blighter... What this has over the hammer and chisel method is that when reassembling you can press down on the big spring at the same time as tightening the securing ring. Good luck and keep maintaining... Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

I use a drift and hammer to loosen/tighten the locking ring - I assumed everyone did something similar ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Ah you know how LRs are... They just like to let you know when they are feeling a little under the weather... Little sniffle here a wee cough there... |
