That's odd that, as my 1998 50th Anniversary came with a bottle jack (and small tool kit) fitted in a corner of the compartment under the passenger seat. It's held in by straps and was clearly made for it. Strapped to the bottom of the internal roll cage is another long bag. This contains the wheel nut socket and extension bars for operating the bottle jack. Why were LR offering two different jacks at the same time on different models? Now left.

Did your 50th have something like a NAS spec rear step, or front A bar that obstructs the holes in the bumber/rear crossmember for the tall screw jack? If so, it will have been supplied with the bottle jack.
Holes obstructed from factory = bottle jack Holes not obstructed = tall screew jack At least I think that that was the reasoning! |

The NAS steps have provisions for those jacks, too.
I wondered if it related to whether the vehicle had a fixed bulkhead or not: hard tops get the long jack whilst station wagons without bulkheads get the bottle jacks? Perhaps at least until LR ran out of stocks of the long ones. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Yes, it does have the NAS step. Front chassis holes aren't obstructed though. But I think you may of figured it out. Now left.

This thread has got me thinking. I'm wondering if our car even has a jack and tool kit. Considering it didn't even have a key for petrol cap!!!!! 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

Plate is indeed for towing electrics, but if you ever plan on installing it, better to put the socket in the big hole of your cross beam.
Concerning the jack: buy a bottle jack! Much safer! |

For those of us with the older ratchet style tall jack, does anyone have a photo of how to stow it properly in the rear of a 110?
My one has 2 straps pop riveted to the passenger side rear wheel arch which it can be sort of strapped down with but it never really stays put for too long and creates a rattle type noise over uneven road surfaces (similar to those produced by everything else) Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |
