Not my pictures - someone on the LRO forum asked me to post them there as he did not want to mess about with a photobucket account. From memory they are of his father and a uni expedition from the 50/60's.....

A couple of my dad and his mate in the Sahara in a then nearly new series 3 safari they drove around in for a couple of trips from the UK. If anyone knows the location of a blue 88 safari 'TTR 999T' i'd be interested to know as would love to find it to restore, although fear it was scrapped after a roll/ another tip over in the UK (when i put the pictures up im sure you'll see it would have been easy to do! If you look at the right wing int the first picture when they set off you can see where they tipped it in Suffolk at an off road place practicing before they set off as well.
My old mans the one pretending to be the monkey hanging off it his mate is the one in the white trousers and the bloke with the beard was an Italian with his family in a series 2 they met up with. Ill try and find the picture of them both loaded up racing across a flat bit. Cheers for that
Bit of a shame but nice to know at least it wasnt scrapped, probably in the states or somewhere now! Bet the owner doesnt know it was Blue. By the sounds of it they had some fun with it, rebuilding the gearbox in the desert (last pic) and tipping it at least 3 times in their ownership, Id of thought if its still going there wouldnt be any original bits on it. Thanks for the info though. I might find it one day. Ive got load more pictures as there in a big old leather bound book at home, its the car that got me into land rovers Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Defender puma dormobile camper Last edited by SailingTom on 12th Mar 2014 1:08pm. I'm not surprised it was easy to tip, with 4cwt of fuel or water on the roof-rack!
I love these classic photos! Please keep them coming. |
