You can't leave me here to fight the Tdi corner on my own You have got a fantastic truck and put so much hard work into it why risk selling it for a VW? Have you seen there emissions Ultimately it is up to you. I tried to sell mine and in the end I just couldn't do it. Just remember if you sell it and it goes it will be very very hard to replace. Well i suppose if you have to, then you have to....
For me, i've owned a few serious-ish cars, and i'm pretty sure impulse buys are my specialty - the best one is the defender.... It's like that thick mate we all have that's a bit slow, but you love her anyway hence why we marry them.... I just can't see the VW camper being the same.... For coolness, the vw is definitely a 'wanna be' and not an 'is'. Can you really love a camper? I definitely couldn't. You can use a defender in a field or to go to a michelin star restaurant - it gets respect, you can even drive up mountains and go across deserts. Would you get respect in the VW van after all it's just a van, ("Stand by your van") A defender is a family member? You put blood sweat tears and a lot of profanities into them, but in the end, they are individual regardless of anything we do... not sure you can say that about a vw van... even if all were painted differently and had different wheels and engines...id still say its another van.... Just my silly opinion |

shaggy its not definite, but the defender just isn't ticking all my boxes anymore. luckily most boxes ARE ticked I've already been offered a swap for a 1998 syncro (4x4) but its a petrol one so that aint happening! My 109 thread my youtube channel |

ah but thats our opinion as we have defenders. there is a HUGE following for vw campers! probably bigger than defenders! but alas, i agree the defender is way cooler! just might not be fitting my needs anymore! My 109 thread my youtube channel |

If you factor in all the Series fans, lightweight fans, maybe the Range Rover classic fans and so on you could probably have a bigger following.
Got to agree also that the Defender is much cooler though! Also.. It's a Defender, you can make it fit your needs! 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon 1998 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon ~ Sold 1995 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Station Wagon ~ Sold 1985 Land Rover 110 ex mod project Tithonus ~ Sold |

shaggy, the mrs hates it!!! she doesn't mind odd short journeys in it but go off for road trip camping ! no chance!.
I also need a camper for stealth camping, so need to be able to live inside the motor! there isn't much room in back for me and two big dogs, but if it were just me i could easily manage. the transporter would enable us to go away as a family (me swmbo and 2 dogs) often! I'm totally confused what to do! i love the defender but sadly its looking more and more less practical for our needs. of course the other thing is i would only sell it for a decent price! not really sure what its worth but if its not worth much i would probably end up keeping it!
